Most Expensive Stuff On Earth

Fri Oct 01, 2004 9:22 am

What is the most expensive stuff on earth? Dont say something like 'gold' or 'cocaine,' I'm talking big league. Whats the single object that has sold for the most money, and the substance that goes for the most money per weight? I would expect it to be some really rare element, but please enlighten me.

Good question, maybe a 'priceless' work of art on canvas?

What is the most expensive stuff on earth?

If it exists, a videotape of the Olsen Twins getting tag-teamed.  Big thumbs up

And just for fun before someone else says it, "Iraq's WMD stockpiles!"

Good one MattD!

I think the right answer to that one is saffron. Worth more than gold or platinum.

Concerning material things I would assume one of the very rare exotic elements which can only be made in microgram amounts in a particle accelerator.
During my last years of high school I used to hang around a physics lab of the Free University of Berlin (the Physics department was quite close to my school and I used to help the physicists in the research labs). We had a cabinet with lots of weird elements in little glass tubes, mostly rare earth elements, but other stuff like gold was also among them. The gold was actuslly the cheapest stuff around there.
The scientists would grow cristalls out of diverse mixtures of these elements and measure certain solid state properties.

Saffron. No wait!

It's californium-252. I think that is 450 billion dollars per pound.

If you can get the stuff!

Commander_Rabb- Isn't Saffron the stuff they use on non-stick fry pans?

ZKSUJ,

You are confusing Saffron (the pollen of a certain type of crocus flower, a red powder, which turns food yellow when cooked with it in minute amounts, much used in Indian cuisine and once the most valuable spice) and Teflon, the Dupont trade name for Polytetraflouroethene, the heat proof plastic used to coat (among lots of other uses) non-stick frying pans.

I agree with you, Ryangooner. The price of Freedom is by far the most expensive thing. As well as Human rights and peace i guess.......

Immaterial object: Freedom
Material object: The cost of owning a pre-Ford takeover Jaguar.

I say life is the most expensive thing on this Earth (its priceless) you can gather all the money in the universe, but the price of a human life (or any life) is invaluable.

It's called, "unobtanium," and it is the stuff they manufacture airplanes out of (but only the parts that break; the durable stuff's plain old aluminum).

Probably not the most expensive thing known to man, but certainly is up there.

1 carat is 1/142nd of an ounce. So 100 carats is 0.704 ounces. Multiply it out and that diamond is about 604 million dollars per pound. (if my math is correct.)
