Is Russia Returning To Dictatorship?

Fri Oct 01, 2004 11:35 am

Putin controls all the TV stations, and he is putting his political enemies in jail. Is this a non-nuclear Cold War that is starting?

Well, since Bush and Putin are fairly chummy I'm not sure how it could constitute a Cold War.

Possibly a return to the Soviet-style dictatorship? Whatever it is, it can't be a good thing.

I call it the process of 'Putinization.' We'll see what all that entails, and how much of it he can truly chalk up to national security. It's definately an interesting time.

Then again, it's not as if this is happening only in Russia. They might not control TV stations, but lots of nations have tried doing lots of draconian things in the name of national security. Not all have succeeded though. Some, like mine, persisted and got shown the door in the elections.

Definitely turning into a startling situation. He has effectively cut out the checks and balances of the Russian government on him and I would say that he has practically gained dictatorship. Let's just hope he doesn't join the tyrranical dictators...

A puzzling problem for the US/UN/World

As long as "Vladimir" tows the line of Bush's style of war on terror and exploits it for attacks on liberties, everything is OK. His generals even pledged to attack the terrorist preemptively - I can just imagine the Russian way of preemptiveness: "Let's carpet bomb Chechnya and while we're warmed-up let's invade the Baltic republics as well! How about that comrade Vladimir?"
Russians will even buy copyright from Ridge's Ministry of Fear for those colored terror alerts.

Putin-Bush what an awesome Axis of Evil would that be!  Acting devilish  Acting devilish  Acting devilish

If Putin and Bush tie up with their evil plans, our days are counted...
