Some ignorant people may blame steroids for this, but odds are it was the cocaine that did him in. Sad.

I think AA61hvy, it was probably both. We still don't know, in many respects, what 'roids do to you long-term, and we're damn sure what coke does to the body long-term. This guy set himself up for an early fall. I feel bad for his family, but not as bad for him, because he was willing to do anything to achieve short-term fame.

Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio this morning were talking with Dick Vitale, and asked him if this unfortunate demise of Caminiti would make other atheletes who abuse their bodies with drugs, think twice now. The conclusion of all three of them-and myself-is that it won't even register with most these guys. Many have been trying to get "the edge" since High School, all in the name of short-term fame and worldly wealth. They won't even pay attention to it-until they feel the pain in their chest at age 45, and realize what a fool they were.

And Aa coming to the defense of steroids. What a great issue to champion bro. Falcon is right through, I'm sure it was the Coke, the 'roids, and the booze that took a toll on his body. Hard to feel sorry for him though.

I'm neutral on the steroid issue. I am educated on that topic. People are often misinformed or uninformed about steroids. As Falcon said they don't know for sure, but odds are it doesn't hurt your heart. Though its been said to thin the walls of your heart. But it is speculation.

I am curious as to what his liver looked like. Steroids+heavy drinking is a BAD combo. Your live can only take so much.

It's not like we don't know 'roids do some damage. I remember when former NFL great Lyle Alzado became ill, and he was convinced his illness was the result of steroid use-and this was back in the 1970's. He also died a young man in his 40's, for that short, brief, glorious day in the sun.

It's worth noting that the specific type of brain cancer Alzado had is usually found in HIV+ people. Whether he was HIV+ is not known, but it's certainly a distinct possibility.
Aa61hvy is right about the steroids issue, they've not been conclusively linked to heart disease. Which isn't to say that they're not without certain bad side effects, or that using them is a sensible choice.

What a shock.

I am saddened to hear the news of his death.

I watched him played baseball on TV - he was one of my hero.

Talk about the age of 41 recorded on his death certificate ..
