Ashley's Story

Wed Oct 20, 2004 9:10 am

http://www.ashleysstory.com

This TV ad was just aired on NBC 12 in Jacksonville, FL. It's quite possibly one of the best and most touching political ads Ive ever seen in my life.

Any comments? Just thought I'd share something that wasnt considered negative campaigning or mudslinging.

I'm not a believer that ads such as this are very effective -- they are too narrowly focused on something and not many facts to vote on. The Bush campaign could probably have spent their money and energy a bit better by making another ad instead of this.

I find it kind of pathetic that politicians are using someones tragedy to get sympathy votes.

Of course it wasn't. It was paid for by one of those 527 groups exploiting a loophole in the McCain-Feingold act which allows soft money contributions to pour into the campaign through the back door. You can also be sure the Bush campaign knew about it and at least tacitly supported it.

Using human tragedy to push a political agenda disgusting and outrageous. It's little more than a sad commentary on how low this campaign has sunk.

Clipper is right. Josh Marshall had a story about this too http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_10_17.php#003730

Here you can see all the ads they are currently running, including Ashley's http://www.pfavoterfund.org/

It's a pathetic way to try and gain money and votes, IMHO.

It's a good story, and certainly isn't supported by Bush or the Republican party.....so deal with it. Kerry can't get support like this.

Thanks for sharing it, 312RC.

I wouldn't want to go to ANY presidential rally... but what's going on at the Bush rallies? Is it one big comfortfest or does he lie first, then proceed to the comfort phase? Lord knows with what he's done the past 4 years, a lot of people need a lot of comforting.

As far as the other comments complaining about someone's suffering being used as a campaign tool, see deltaguys statement.

Which one?

If it was the offensive one with the picture, that sort of thing is uncalled for. Kindly be more respectful if you wish to disagree.

If it was the statement afterwards, it's naive to think 527 that corporations are totally independent of the campaigns they support. The Party or the Campaign would not (I hope) have directly supported it as this would be a violation of the law, but I find it hard to believe these groups are not talking to the campaign at some level.

I'm sorry if feeling like I want to throw up watching this commercial offends you and NW747400, but I have met too many people who lost friends and loved ones on 9/11 to condone the cheapening and denegration of their pain by using victims and their families as political pawns.

If your parents are voting for Bush because of ads like this one, then yes. If they were voting for Kerry because of some moveon ads, they would also be idiots. I guess you STILL don't understand Continental's post. I'd be happy to provide you with some real personal insults, but I'd rather not get banned. I can only call it like I see it, and since you are not taking the time to read and understand, or can't understand the post even after reading it, you appear to be left behind.
