This site has a large selection of SWL receivers.

Sangean makes some good portable units and some of them are very cheap. If you plan to listen to aircraft communications you will need to get a radio which can receive SSB signals.

For a desktop unit I would highly recommend the Drake R8B and the Icom R75. I'll admit the desktop units are not cheap but if you want the best they are the way to go IMHO  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Thanks for the help everyone. If anyone knows is the Sony ICF-SW7600GR is a good radio? The price of $137.99 is very good.
