It's Back To BAR For Jenson Button

Thu Oct 21, 2004 4:50 am

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/3746818.stm

FIA just decided that Jenson Button will not be allowed to switch teams next seasons, even though he had already signed with Williams BMW. The decision cannot be disputed, so it's set!

Tough luck for Frank Williams, there are no good drivers left on the market, but somehow I have a distinct feeling it might not be that bad for Jenson...

David Coulthard could be a good choice perhaps for Williams?

Actually, he isn't going back to BAR...he has NEVER LEFT BAR, so he ain't coming back but more like staying where he is!  Smile

I would agree with what your saying though, he is best staying at BAR, considering at the moment they tend to be getting better results than Williams.

DC is a nobody, well past it. He should have been dropped years ago by Mclaren in favour of some other driver. Would have been nice to see Nick Heidfeld partner Raikkonen.

and Mika Hakkinen, wants to make a come back, he says he is in better physical shape now than when he won his two titles, and he is looking for a decent team to drive for.

Maybe willimans or McClaren should try and scout him for a season and see what heppens.

Here's my hot tip for next year. I reckon Michael Schumacher will win the driver's championship..... Big grin

Its Mclaren, you could upset a diehard Mclaren fan here  Smile

Why would Hakkinen or more like how could he go back to Mclaren when they already have Kimi and Juan under contract for next season? The only way that could happen is if they had to run 3 cars, in which case they would probably just retain DC to keep the British happy.

I'd like to see Hakkinen come back though, although I don't think he would be his former self.

Williams should pick up Nick Heidfeld.

Be interesting to hear what Webber really thinks of this development.

Good morning!

Actually, he had already signed with Williams and considered himself gone, so "back" isn't all that wrong...besides, it does have a better rhythm... linguistically Big grin Big grin Big grin

Schu driver champion next year????????? Jesus, you're really a daring character  Big grin Big grin If you put 100 Euro on him, how much do they pay you back...95????  Nuts  Nuts  Nuts

The problem is, that Williams does have a valid contract with Button for the 2006 season, so FW needs a stand-in for 1 year, not a very nice prospect for any self-respecting driver. Besides, Mark Webber isn't exactly the guy who's able to develop a car...

DC is still a good driver, been too long in McLaren though, as for Mika joining
F1? Yes, I would love it, but only as a test driver for McLaren.

My opinion is that JB might actually be better off at BAR for another year. If BAR can improve their package just a bit, he could well win races next season. Another good showing by him in 2005 could have all the top teams fighting for his services in 2006. I would even include Ferrari in that – I could see JB replacing RB as a better long-term replacement for MS.

DC is still a good driver,

A good driver yes. But for a driver whose entire career (to date) has been spent at two of F1's top teams, his drive to win ratio is pretty poor.

And the reliability of the car's he has driven is exceptionally poor also

Scbrimi, RB is untouchable, imagine how many cars Fiat sells in Brazil.
DC hasn´t won that many races, but he been loyal 2nd driver to Mika while
he was world champ and he surely been loyal to Kimi, during his stay at McLaren. Exactly the kind of driver Williams need along Webber (talented but
not a winner, yet!).
BAR is definitly the 2nd best team in F1 and Jason has outclassed Sato this year, partly due to Renaults boss fight with Trulli (won Monaco and got sacked same season, how stupid can you get?)...

who ever Williams choose they will only be in the seat for one year, since Button has a valid contract for 2006. Expect to see Pizzonia in the seat since Williams were impressed with him when he filled in for Ralf.

Besides, Mark Webber isn't exactly the guy who's able to develop a car...

Wrong, Webber gives the engineer excellent feedback which helps them develop the car.

My opinion is that JB might actually be better off at BAR for another year.

But will BAR be better off with him? his decision to cause all this trouble will have undboutley caused a fall out between JB and Dave Richards. But DR would have caused trouble by not paying Jenson bonuses.

Yes Kirkie, that is exactly what I am talking about Big grin Big grin Big grin

Actually Ferrari does have JB on their radar screen, just not now. Let the boy make some good wins on his own first, THEN he can join Ferrari. If he does now, he'll be number 2 for a few years, and that will kill him competition-wise.

DC: Yes, he may be the guy for FW next year, not a bad choice!
