Berlin A.netters?

Wed Oct 27, 2004 7:36 am

I'll be in Berlin for a couple of weeks from Nov. 5th and I'd be thankfull for some tips for aviation-related places. (And I don't mean spotting CRJs and 737s Smile )

Luftwaffenmuseum if you are interested in military aircraft. Entrance is free but the museum is somewhat outside of Berlin.

To a lesser extend: Deutsches Technikmuseum, Kreuzberg. http://www.dtmb.de/index_en.html

To cite the Technikmuseum:

As early as 1937, a correspondent for the British "Flight" magazine wrote enthusiastically, "And I left the museum thinking that a time will come when Britain will bitterly regret that we were not capable of preserving objects in a similar manner".

Today, Britain has some excellent aviation collections whilst Berlin is rather poorly endowed. The much-praised collection in Berlin was destroyed in World War II and for a long time, it seemed as if nothing had survived. There were no attempts either to re-establish an aviation museum in Berlin until the seeds of a new beginning were sown with the foundation of the technology museum.

At 16 April 2005, the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin will be able to once again present an outstanding aviation collection in the annex.

Sorry, here's a Berliner, too, but unfortunately not available during all of November.

Well, you'll have a hard time spotting anything else but 737s, Airbus 320s and the likes live in Berlin, but there is (at least was last year or so) a photo collection in the main building of TXL, showing the history of the airport. Should you get there, just ask!
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

Just moved here recently so don't know too many aviation related places but the Allierten Museum (Museum of the Allies) has a nice exhibit on the Berlin Airlift with a Hastings aircraft on the lot.

There's also a C-47 (DC-3) suspended in the open air at the Technical Museum.

Have been spotting a couple of times at Tegel. Expect to see a lot of 737s.
