Pop-up Blockers

Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:37 am

Anyone tried "stopZilla"? Or, better yet, is there a free one that works well? I have a Yahoo blocker that seems to ignore about half of the pop-ups.

The SP2 one works pretty well. But I mainly use the google toolbar which stops most of the pop ups. Probably the best is to switch to MyIE2 (IE based tabbed browser, so there is hardly any switch over issues), which not only has a pop-up blocker, but an ad blocker.

One comes standard through my ISP's toolbar, plus Mozilla Firefox does a bang up job in blocking them as well.

I use the Google toolbar which works well and has the added feature of providing a convenient way to do Google searches.

I use the Google toolbar one too and it blocks them all, you can allow pop ups on selected sites (like here for the check-in).

I currently use the free version of Panicware PopUpStopper which works well, but I'm now considering getting the google toolbar after the positive reviews above.

Google does the job 99.9% of the time. Since installing it my machine has blocked 13624 pop ups!

I took care of most of my popup isses by running Adaware. It isn't a pop blocker but it does remove the spyware that often generates them.

And since I put a firewall in I haven't had any problems.

The odometer on my Google toolbar reads 7455 blocked for now.
Some web sites generate an annoying number of popups.
