The exit polls that I saw on CNN also said that the more education a person had, the more likely they were to vote for Kerry, and not vote for banning gay marriage. Draw your own conclusions.

Since political science is not an actual science being intelligent does not guarantee that you make correct judgements.

When I learned that I was eligible for membership in Mensa I took a look at what they were actually about. I found that their members mistook their IQ for a lot of things that it is not. A high IQ does not mean that you have good judgement. Evidence to the contrary abounds. It does not mean that you are "good" or "evil" but can tend toward either with more power. I'd bet real money that Adolph Hitler had a higher IQ than Mother Theresa. And so what.

I've come to realize that the reason my IQ is high is largely because I have a mind similar to people who devise intelligence tests. I disagree that these tests are necessarily culturally biased, after all, knowledge of things outside your day-to-day experience certainly is one valid index of intelligence. However, I am convinced that they are biased toward similarity with the person who wrote the test.

Happiness is not seeing another trite Ste. Maarten photo all week long.

It shows you how Bush played to the "dumbing down" vote so effectively. These people don't understand much beyond their own little world, and many still hold great grudges against those whom they perceive as "superior" to them, economically and socially.

It shows that JetService was right; the NASCAR vote, the poor, white, chaw-chewing white trash is what is driving the election these days. Little education; little social mobility, but with a huge amount of loathing for anything outside what they know.

Apparently Al Qaida aren't to thrilled over the re-election either. They threatened with more attacks now that "the American people have shown they support the war against Islam".

I don't think these guys get the picture...

Yeah, if Kerry was elected and managed to sort it out, they wouldn't have anything to do. Bush certainly giving people jobs...  Smile Not to mention the guys he sends off to Iraq. What would they do if they didn't have a war to go to? Stay alive perhaps?

You don't get it, do you?

Bush's war in Iraq had done nothing but to piss off a few million more Arabs and Muslims in the world. The occupation and the attempt to westernize Iraq into a "democracy" has energized those people. Afghanistan didn't energize them, but Iraq, being an unjustified incursion, has lit a fuse under those people.

But enjoy your naivte, if you wish.

Alpha, I must admit that I'm a bit surprised at your last statement. You honestly believe that someone is "poor, stupid white trash" for voting for Bush? You don't think that some of that same uneducated garbage votes for Kerry as well? Don't forget that Kerry garnered nearly half the popular vote in the election.

All stupid people vote for GWB. All smart people voted for Kerry. What a silly, elitist view (and I do find it quite funny that you call people "elitist" when you post the same tripe).

"I'll show you boobs if you vote for John Kerry!" --got the college vote...

"Why are you voting Kerry, ma'am?" "We need change." "And what specifically do you speak of?" "::silence::" --asked this question many, many times and received the same response.

And, IIRC, you're not exactly far above that "poor, white, chaw-chewing" blue-collar class, are you? Hmmmmm....

I call it a gross misinterpretation (too narrow and simplistic) of voter demographics...but hey, if you can whine about it, let Alpha take it and run, right?  Big grin

1) Bogus stats. No way an 'average IQ' can be attained for populations that large. PLEASE!!!

2) You guys act like everyone in a given state voted for one candidate or the other. The voters and percentages were mixed. If it were possible, you would need average IQ of Bush voters in given state vs. ave. IQ of a Kerry voter in that same state. Who's to say the Kerry voters aren't dragging down the average?

3) Don't make the gay-marriage issue a Dem vs. Rep thing. Kerry was against it and Clinton even urged him to be more forcefully against it.

4) If MD-90 moved to Arkansas, the average IQ of both states would go down.

This is pure crap. No way there can be such difference in IQ average from one state to the other.

Education might be a predictor of how people vote (more educated -> Kerry), but that would have to be investigated.

Actually there are groups out there that say that Bush has a slightly higher IQ than Kerry. Now this is unscientific, it's based on military testing, college transcripts and GPAs that they were able to obtain.

Anyways these lists are suspect, they are routinely proved false on the fact buster websites.

Exactly. There have been surveys of the average income of Democrat registered voters, and Republican registration's. It has shown that Republicans have a lower average income than Democrats, even though Democrats out number Republican in the lowest pay brackets.

1) Bogus stats. No way an 'average IQ' can be attained for populations that large. PLEASE!!!

Do you know what an average is? Technically, all you need for an average is one person. Ex: If person X's IQ is 120, the group containing him (so just him) has an average IQ of 120. Simple! Just because you cannot accept the fact that the more educated people voted for Kerry is another story...

Wow, this actually sounds like something Bush would say! Yes, we act like everyone in a state voted for one person or the other, because that is the case! No one can vote for two people, you know that, right? (Yes, I know what you are trying to say, but it came out wrong.)

The only point made here is the states in which the majority of the people voted for Bush have are all basically at the low end of the IQ table! Don't say that it doesn't show anything, because that is just being naive.

I do not accept theories predicated on hissy-fits and that's what this stuff is. Even if the IQ averages were correct, this data doesn't even divide Bush & Kerry voters. Its supposedly a collective average of the state's entire population. But its BS anyway so it doesn't matter. I know you're probably vulnerable right now in your post-election-tantrum period, but try not to be so fucking gullible.

Don't believe the hype. I never trust data without a current source,

"The IQ numbers were originally attributed to the book "IQ and the Wealth of Nations", though they do not appear in the current edition. The tests and data were administered via the Raven's APT, and the The Test Agency, one of the UK's leading publishers and distributors of psychometric tests. This data has been published in the Economist and the St. Petersburg Times, though this does not mean it should be taken as fact. Though the data does correlate somewhat to IQ of students per state based on SAT/ACT data, though this would be biased for those that had completed a high school education."

Here is how it looks just looking at SAT/ACT scores...

1 New Hampshire 104 Kerry
2 Wisconsin 103 Kerry
3 Oregon 103 Kerry
4 Massachusetts 103 Kerry
5 Washington 102 Kerry
6 Vermont 102 Kerry
7 Oklahoma 102 Bush
8 North Dakota 102 Bush
9 Nebraska 102 Bush
10 Montana 102 Bush
11 Minnesota 102 Kerry
12 Iowa 102 Bush
13 Illinois 102 Kerry
14 Connecticut 102 Kerry
15 Colorado 102 Bush
16 Wyoming 101 Bush
17 Utah 101 Bush
18 Ohio 101 Bush
19 New York 101 Kerry
20 Missouri 101 Bush
21 Michigan 101 Kerry
22 Maryland 101 Kerry
23 Alaska 101 Bush
24 West Virginia 100 Bush
25 Virginia 100 Bush
26 South Dakota 100 Bush
27 Rhode Island 100 Kerry
28 Pennsylvania 100 Kerry
29 New Jersey 100 Kerry
30 Nevada 100 Bush
31 Maine 100 Kerry
32 Idaho 100 Bush
33 California 100 Kerry
34 Arizona 100 Bush
35 Indiana 99 Bush
36 Hawaii 99 Kerry
37 Delaware 99 Kerry
38 Florida 98 Bush
39 Arkansas 98 Bush
40 Texas 97 Bush
41 Tennessee 97 Bush
42 North Carolina 97 Bush
43 Louisiana 97 Bush
44 Kentucky 97 Bush
45 Georgia 97 Bush
46 Alabama 97 Bush
47 New Mexico 96 Bush
48 Kansas 96 Bush
49 South Carolina 94 Bush
50 Mississippi 94 Bush

Wisconsin #2, the way it should be  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

No matter how you look at it if you use educational statistics Mississippi comes in dead last.

Need proof? Just read the disclaimer. Its a hoot. This data is entirely based on high-school SAT and ACT scores (a voting block that isn't big on voting). It doesn't bother to factor in high-school drop-outs nor does it track people that move from state to state. To apply it to the election, you would need to do a little more data research. What is the average IQ of the subgroup that actually voted? How many of them voted in the state they graduated from High School in? Whom did they vote for? WHO CARES! LMFAO!  Laugh out loud  Laugh out loud  Laugh out loud

Where's that darn bullshit meter!!!

I wonder what the correlation is for "IQ" vs. people who actually go out and vote...

Maybe the "IQ" based on SAT and ACT scores has anything to do with Bush's No Child Left Behind idea. Big grin

If you ask me, there are far too many variables to determine intelligence of such large populations. Making any conclusions based on such data is foolish in itself.

IMHO, success in life has more to do with attitude, than with intelligence. Motivation to go out and vote is more important than "IQ".
