Hummer H2 Sightings Around The World?

Fri Nov 12, 2004 4:18 pm

How many of you have spotted the controverisal Hummer H2 in your land or on foreign soil outside of North America? Here in the USA, it is the most hated SUV by envirornmentalist because of its hefty thirst for gasoline. I know that official sales outside the US are limited, but I'd like to hear where you've seen one and your comment and impressions of it.

Well....

I haven't seen it in Denmark so far. As far as I know that Monster is not legal here in Denmark because of safety reasons.

But I have no doubt that we will see it here sooner or later.

Ditto.

As Ireland is considering slapping a 5000 Euro + tax on SUV's (depending on location and emissions), chances are our eyesight shall be preserved.

There are more than a few here. I would guess that there are a lot more in the Gulf, like in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and co.

There's one down here in Plymouth, England that I see just about every morning on my way to college. Don't like it, just another way for 'townies' to show off, wouldn't be surprised if its never been off road in its life!

There's some asshole driving one here in the center of Helsinki, where most of the streets weren't even designed for today's traffic levels in the first place. I see it every once in a while, and wonder how many other cars it scratches per day in the tightest places. It's amazing what trouble people with small dicks will go through...

Never seen it here and don't miss it, but I would like to see the stretched version (!) in downtown London. Let's see how far the driver gets that behemouth or how long it takes for him to find a parking lot.  Acting devilish

The stretched version:

There are two in Barcelona:

one belongs to a drug capo, and the other one, to a soccer player.

Is like a giant brick! Really, don't want to encounter with one of these in a narrow road!

I haven't seen any yet - why would anyone voluntarily drive around in a car that looks like a security van ?

The Porsche SUV is much in evidence down this end of the world though - usually with Monaco plates. It's another total pose-mobile which nobody in their right mind would ever take off road - I mean its not as if the South of France is ideal off-road territory anyway !

There at least two in the Huddersfield area (UK). There is also one of those stretched ones which you can see regularly.

Not sure how people can afford to put petrol in them in the UK!

Doubt it - mud and scratches will play havoc with the resale value. Besides, if it got into anything like mud, it would sink without trace.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Here in the USA, it is the most hated SUV by envirornmentalist because of its hefty thirst for gasoline.

I wonder if it's hated more than the Ford Excursion. That vehicle was in the environmentalists' crosshairs before it even came out. At least, the Excursion has some style to it.

Although, personally (and Superfly would agree with me on this), give me a Ford Country Squire or a Mercury Colony Park (especially the 70s models) over the current brute SUVs any day. Most people who buy these thing here and abroad are not using them for off-roading.

Should Superfly see this post, look for a picture of a '78 Colony Park to follow.

I personally hate the H2, but i love the H1, the same as the Army's. Gosh you could run over anything with the H1.
BTW, the hummer is more capable than you think in harsh conditions, it's just that the H2 is a "Stromboni" version of the Hummer
Now you're really flying

NoUFO: We have an H2 stretch just like that in our town. Ugliest piece of crap I think I've ever seen. What a waste of space.

I personally think the new H2's are a waste. The original Hummer was an all purpose, off road vehicle designed for the armed forces. It was only when they designed a street version that people here, rich people, took an interest. The first time I saw a Hummer was in "The Rock" with Nicolas Cage. Remember when Sean Conary stole it? Smile Anyway. The whole purpose of an H2 in my mind, is to take it off road. If you drive the damn thing around on the street, you are defeating it's purpose. Now, you can put DVD players in them, and all other sorts of toys. I was watching the newest piece of junk reality show on ABC, The 25 million dollar hoax, and she went to buy a new H2. She put off road tires on it! She isn't even going to drive the thing off road!

Bottom line, if I hit it big in the lotery, I'd buy a big truck, before I'd buy an H2.

I saw one in Vienna this summer. I was shocked, because I had never seen one in Europe before. I thought it was hilarious because it was stopped at a stoplight on Mariahilfer Strasse next to quite a small car (something a little bigger than a Mini, but I am not sure exactly what it was).

I know this is sort of off topic, but I saw a H2 a few weeks ago here in MN with a license plate that said C MY H2, and on the back were those ribbon-bumber stickers that say "support our troops." I laughed so hard I was almost crying! What an idiot!

Music to my ears to hear the H2 trashed. Though I actually find it visually appealing, it's an utterly ridiculous 'image' vehicle of little merit, aside from fair offroad capability for the extremely few who'll take it there. In the Car and Driver forum, there a couple of rabid, pro-Hummer snobs who defend it but even there, it's not held in high regard. 9 m.p.g. is pretty much unacceptable unless you make upwards of a 6-figure salary and even then, you must put up with scowls from the more frugal. At least the equally thirsty Ford Excursion has scads of room and towing ability to help justify its prodigious fuel appetite; the H2 is deficient on these counts. If GM and Hummer had been more sensible in designing it; it's sales wouldn't now be sinking like a stone after its initial 15 minutes of fame. What on earth were they smoking at the time that convinced them this would be a long-term sales success?  Insane

This is GM. Don't expect too much logic from the company that scraped the Firebird and gave us the Aztec. The company that that gave us the gas-to-diesel conversion engine. The same company that gave us the 4-6-8 engine. The company that scraped the B-body and many other bad business moves.

I stole a Hummer just recently while in Canada. It ran out of gas about a mile down the road...the piece of crap. I had just filled it up!  Nuts

The only way a Hummer would look good to me is if it were flying off a cliff. Oh ya, and it would look even better with Paris Hilton at the wheel.

I was at a dealership hoping to buy an SUV about a month back, and there was an H2, an Avalanche, and a lot of trucks, and other SUVs...

I got into one of those - WHY IN THE HELL do you need something like that?

I got a Jeep Grand Cherokee and that's big enough - getting an H2 - is like getting your own house.

I drive a motorcoach for a living and have seen plenty of H2s. Being in the luxury transportation business, I have to say that the only thing uglier than an H2 or Ford Excursion is a limo conversion of either. Give me a sleek Lincoln, Caddy or Mercedes stretch anyday. At least it doesn't hurt the eyes to look at them-especially since driving a bus pays better than what most limo services do.

As for my personal transportation, it's a 4 door Jeep Cherokee. One time when I was working for the railroad, I was assigned to escort some film production company people and they had a rental Ford Excursion. We were preparing to go on site at Bridge No. 4 and one of the guys commented on a tall fellow like me driving a Jeep. All I said was that I had my reasons for preferring it over the big trucks. They found out why I preferred the Jeep when we had to drive under a CSXT railroad bridge and their Ford wouldn't fit while my Jeep fit just right. Needless to say, the 1/4 mile walk they made in the mud made them reconsider the idiom of bigger being better.

In Puerto Rico.. it has become the Best New Thing together with the Mini Cooper and some of the newly introduced Scion cars, to the point that buyers have to wait on list to get theirs. So, its just as common as to see a Mitsubishi Montero or a Toyota 4Runner.

The big question is: Where are those people getting the money from??

I saw a H2 stretch limo parked outside the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia last Saturday night. Not sure who was renting it, unless it was for the San Diego Sockers who lost to the Philadlephia Kixx indoor soccer team 4-2. I have one word: UGLY.

Superfly, thanks for being true to your post. I like the phot shot of the '74 as well.

We've got a H2 dealer in Manchester so there are a few here, including the stretch type shown above.

The locally owned ones are bright yellow and used for photoshoots. At $7 a gallon they don't do much mileage....
