Peterson Trial Verdict In 1 Hour: Place Your Bets

Sat Nov 13, 2004 4:55 am

Obviously this isn't a court of law, I wasn't in the courtroom, and I've never been on a jury, but based on the facts presented to me by the news media I vote two counts of first-degree murder.

Opinions welcome.

Vote seconded....the prosecution has thrown up enough evidence to put this man away many times over...the writing's on the wall so to speak. 60 minutes to go...

Hung jury. Re-trial to come. Too bad, cause he's as guilty as the day is long.

Aren't people always saying there aren't enough hours in the day???

Anyway,

Its California, he's innocent, at least in a court of law.

Tom, the good news is they HAVE reached a verdict, which means they cannot be hung. Seems like they've been deliberating for a rather short period of time.

>>the prosecution has thrown up enough evidence to put this man away many times over<<

What evidence would that be?

NO physical evidence (the ONE single hair on the pliers on his boat wasn't conclusively identified as Laci's)
NO eyewitness
Questionable motive.
etc, etc.

Not saying I don't think he's guilty, but I defintely don't think the prosecution proved it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Not guilty.

Enough doubt has been raised.

In my eyes, he definitely did it, or at least had someone else do it and paid the guy (either way he is guilty of something), but there is no way he will be found guilty. The evidence just isn't hard enough. He's gonna get away with murder, that's a shame. And even worse than getting away with Laci's murder, he's getting away with his sons murder (it was going to be a boy, right?)

My gut says not guilty, as I think the defense has raised enough reasonable doubt to throw off the jury. My heart would love to see the mutt be found guilty.

the replica boat and its contents — coveralls stuffed with weights and concrete anchors tied to the arms and legs — quickly became a makeshift shrine, with candles, flowers and hand-lettered signs reading “Rot in Prison” and “Justice for Laci and Conner.”

Hordes of onlookers gathered around, some even kneeling, praying and weeping before the boat was towed away Wednesday night.

SW - with the first degree conviction, it's quite possible that Mr. Peterson might have a date with a needle (or the gas chamber) in his future.

The needle. I dont think CA does the chamber anymore. Besides...hed probably die on death row since only like 10-15 people have been executed...unlike Texas  Laugh out loud

the good news is they HAVE reached a verdict, which means they cannot be hung.

Guess I should've taken the thread title literally, I was thinking there was a trial decision coming (like hung jury/re-trial), as opposed to a guilty/not guilty.

Anyways, nice to see this jury had more guts, and knew how to interpret evidence and testimony, than the criminal (in more ways than one) O.J. jury.

I THINK (but I'm not certain) that Cali still gives one the option of gassing or lethal injection. Why anyone would want to pick gassing is beyond me...

Me personally, I'm not 100% convinced that he did it. I think a lot of the evidence was circumstantial, which in and of itself should not be grounds for conviction. Do I think he MIGHT have done it? Sure.

I think that the jury buckled under the pressure of the immense mob mentality of wanting to see a man get fried because a pregnant woman was killed. You know how some women are fanatical about the married life and how others just hate men period. I think that if the tables were turned, meaning that Scott was the dead one and Laci the accused, she would've walked, no questions asked.

But the defsne had every chance to present a good rebuttal and whatever evidence was available to defend Scotts innocence-if he was.

The jury has spoken.

Oddly enough I live in Redwood City.

Matt-
consider that Scott, on Christmas Eve was fishing 90 miles from his home in the SF bay, where incidentally the body is found a mile from that fishing spot sometime later. Then he makes his way down to the Mexican border with like 10 grand in cash, his brother's ID, dyed hair, and grown and dyed goatee.

Though I can't understand why he would do it. Did he really think he could get away with it and then live happily ever after with that other woman?

Jaysit-
To give you an idea of the character of these fine individuals, they cheered as Scott Peterson's family walked out of the courthouse.

So I am curious after the sentencing and such I imagine an appeal will be made, right?

I agree that does look suspicious, but still does not conclusively prove that he comitted the murder.

As I recall, no official cause of death was even determined. No weapon was ever found.

Like I said. All of the evidence was circumstantial and subject to conjecture. I really believe this case gave way to vigilantiism (sp?) where making sure a man went down became more important than making sure the RIGHT person went down.
