What Kind Of Car Do You Drive?

2003 Nissan 350Z silverstone color with 6 speed manual transmission and black leather interior.

I decided to do it instead of getting an SUV, telling myself it was a good decision because its reliable and costs less than an SUV. I really did it because it is capable of Warp Factor 7 and looks great.

It really jacked up my neighbor down the street (in the nice part of the area) who has a silver Porsche Carrera 4. He pulled next to me at the light and did a doube take. We let each other drive our cars around the block, and I gotta say that the Porsche is incredible....but I'm just not sure it's $70k more incredible than my Z.

Best car since my Alfa GT-V6.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Special Edition for personal use. Rear bench folds down for additional cargo space. Tan leather interior, three speed automatic and a full size spare.

My work vehicle varies depending on my assignment but is either a 35, 40 or 45 foot Van Hool motorcoach. They have 5-6 speed Allison automatics, cruise control, three position Jake or six position transmission brakes, air ride, three to five monitor video systems and carry anywhere from 32 to 57 passengers, dependant on the size and configuration of the coach. Excellent visability as I sit up as high as a tractor trailer cab and have good stopping capability for air brake equipped vehicles of their weight (34,000-49,450 lbs.). By the way, don't tailgate motorcoaches: if they can't see you behind them and have to stop very quickly, their deceleration rate can be high enough that you'll rear end them. Transmission brakes can slow a coach very quickly, especially if used in combination with the service (air) brakes. Used alone, neither the Jake or transmission brake will illuminate the brake lamps.

Probably the best bang for your buck... cost $3K CDN and it's got 220 ponies, and pulls not to 60 in 6.5 seconds, and it's great on gas since it's only a 3L.

2000 Honda Civic VP Sedan (Value Package - basically a DX with some factory features)
Green
1.6L 4-cyl
4-speed Automatic

All stock (not riced). Great car to get me to and from school and for some occasional around-town trips. It's been very reliable and is really fuel efficient. Only things I'd ask for in it are cruise control (standard only in LX and EX) and a little more power although the 1.6L doesn't do a bad job of moving such a small car, can get kinda tough merging into a busy highway.

1997 Ford Crown Victoria LX
Handling & Performance Package
16-inch aluminun mag wheels.
4.6L V8, dual exhausts.
82,000 miles.
Deep Forest Green Metallic exterior (Phila. Eagles Green)
Willow Green velour/cloth interior.
My first new car (factory order purchase Nov. 1996).

Other vehicle:
1976 Ford LTD Landau
2-door pillared hardtop
White exterior w/dark blue vinyl interior.
dark blue half-vinyl roof (aftermarket, original half-vinyl roof was white)
351M (5.8L) V8, aftermarket dual exhausts
111,000 miles
Purchased in Sept. 1993 when it had only 36,000 miles.
For a Landau model, it was quite stripped. It had no rear wheel fender skirts nor cruise control. Most Landau interiors usually had either velour or leather interiors. This one must have been a factory order.

The logic of getting a car with an automatic, then modifying it just totally escapes me. I am going to go out on a limb here and say at least MattD can deal with the third pedal on the floor.

BTW, nice Camaro.. so are you and DeltaGuy going to get together and compare mullets when you buy it? Big grin

Hermet Valve- I can drive stick, thanks. My mother used my car alot in highschool. She doesn't know how to drive manual. Good try though.

Manual transmission does not increase performance of a car. I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys drive a fast car and lose a race because they missed a shift.

Maybe they should start driving automatic if they forget a thing like that Big grin

I truthfully couldn't answer that. Then again I have never been in a 'racing' type situation when driving manual. Only driving normally in traffic.

"I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys drive a fast car and lose a race because they missed a shift."

And you blame the equipment? Maybe guys that drive like that should consider trading in their sports car for a Kia or something, they clearly don't need to be driving.

I think it is popularly accepted that a car with a typical automatic loses something like 10-15% (through the torque converter) off its top end. I am not going to chase down a source because I have to get to finance class in about 10 minutes. I couldn't pass up a chance to harass you about something, so are you going to wait until you actually have the Camaro to start the mullet, or are you going to start now?

Either way it doesn't really matter down here, bus/Mustang/Ferrari/BMW with Kia interior.. they all go the same speed when the highways are parked at rush hour.
