Please Pray For My Mother...

Wed Nov 24, 2004 1:26 am

She had a cardiac arrest exactly four weeks ago, literally died in my hands and was reanimated few minutes later.

Since then she had an operation for her stomach (internal bleedings) and her lungs (fluids),and is being dialysed as her kidneys don't work properly but since day one never got out of a coma.

I miss her... Please join the prayers before I lose her.

Thank you.
Peter

I am not religious but I will indeed have a thought for her.
I hope that she shall eventually come out of her coma.

Absolutely!

What are her doctors saying about her prognosis?

Meanwhile, just being with her and talking to her (yes, this does work) is really important. Spend as much time with her as you can.

I almost never pray, but of course, I wish your mother, you and your family all the best!

To everyone: please take a first aid course! I did so last weekend (need it for uni), and knowing what to do in the very important first seconds and minutes after a medical emergency feels very good.

Peter,
Be strong and have hope.

They say that people in comas can often hear things even though they can't process the words. I'm not sure, but I think you should take Ctbarnes' advice. Talk to your mother and tell her everything you always wanted to. Tell her you love her and that you're looking forward to her getting better.

Hold her hand.

There is hope.

I was fortunate in that I was able to settle some differences with my Dad about 1 month before he died in 2000. I left the hospital that day, certain in the knowledge that I had said my last goodbyes to him, and left there quite at peace with him and myself.

Prepare yourself for the worst case (your mother doesn't make it) and make sure you tell her all the things you want her to know. Consider it your last conversation with her and make your peace with yourself and her.

To everyone else, never forget that the last words you say to someone you love, may in fact be the last words you will ever have the opportunity to say to them. Never leave a loved one hearing hateful things as your last words to them!

Losing my Mom while I was on phone with 911 (rescue) sitting across the table from me at 9:38pm on 6/1/02, I can relate  Sad

Hope that, if she doesn't make it, she would at least come around enough to say goodbye...that was what I never got a chance to hear...she was gone in a second....I miss her SO much  Sad

Having unexpectedly loosing my father to a heart attack last year, I can assure you my best wishes and deepest sympahies are with you, your mother and your family.

Loosing a family member at any stage is a hard to deal with, espcially when you have to see them go through the pain of operations and you don't know if they are going to survive or not.
Remain positive, while I was at the hospital with my mother had such a pesimistic outlook and I tried to reassure her the whole time we were there. I don't know how old your mother is, but my father died when he was 53 and to loose someone so early in life is hard to deal with. To this day, my family is still dealing with it and the related issues.

I hope for your sake and your mothers sake that she pulls through, I don't want anyone to go throught what I've been through.

To all of you who have replied: big thank you, I appreciate it.

Little update: they'll do the EEG ( a brain test ) today, if it comes out wrong, the doctors will call me and we'll have to decide if they should stop the treatment.

I do want her to live, but seeing her suffering hurts and when the doctors say it's pointless, what can one do?

So fingers crossed!

Peter

peter, keep us posted on those results of her test!

don't stop treatment if there is even 1% chance!

my grandmother went into a severe coma 10 years ago with a serious blockage of her main vein in her brain, she laid in it for days, and then one day, after minor treatment, she was out of!! She is still alive today, walking at 85 years old! talking, laughing and even cooking! Dr at the time said her chance of living was less than half a percent! Look where we are now! God took over where the dr. could not go on anymore...there are still things we do not understand in this world, so we should never make conclusions set in stone!

Peter.

Sorry to hear about your loss, it never is easy no matter what time of year it happens. My thoughts are with you. I know it sounds like a cliche though it does get easier everyday and it helps to remember them in your heart and memories than to dwell on the fact that they have passed on.
