If You Could Go Back In Time...

Sun Dec 05, 2004 4:36 am

if you could go back in time, what would you change about your life...what decision would you make or not make again...

please...let's stay off politics and make this more personal experiences...

mine would be to get a 2nd degree while at college, i feel like i dont know much outside of aviation...

Well for me, I would have went to college RIGHT after high school. Also I would have started flying as early as possible. Instead, i got on the fire department full time and now am trying for a career change. Not easy !! I'm 25 y/o.

I would have chosen Journalism as studies instead of Translator-Interpreter. Journalism was my first choice, but there was a lottery for these studies and I could go to the school for translators right away. In the end I didn´t end up as a full time translator or interpreter and I´m perfectly happy with my life as it is, but I am very curious where I would be and what I would do as a journalist.

I can't actually say I have any major regrets. I have always pondered joining the military, but then again, I don't want someone else running my life, like the government.

I've spent time living in Europe, Canada, and I've been to Mexico many more times than I can account for. I went to school, did the whole college thing, I'm taking flying lessons -- something I always have wanted to do. I've had a blast riding a sportbike for two years. To me there's not much more fun than that.

I suppose I would like to take up hang gliding in the future. I've heard many good things about it...well bad things as well for that matter. I'm an optimist when it comes to a sport like that.

Martial arts come to mind as well. I was in Ken Po for 2 years, but I would like to go back and finish off a black belt anyway.

Someday soon perhaps.

I would go back to a day in July 1988 and go home to my then wife, rather than
what actually took place. I swore I would never do what I did, but..I did..and I've lived with the regrets since then. I love my current wife tremendously..but..
my kids lives were changed in ways they should not have been. Anyone considering an extra marital affair, consider this.

I'd go back to Aug 12, 1999 and quit work that day...since I would then have had a year to spend with my Aunt before she died...and one yr and 9 months before my Mom did also...  Sad

I'd go back to the time when I declared my major field of study in college. Instead of declaring business economics, I would have chosen to be a History major and Poli. Sci. minor. Both subjects interest me a LOT more than finance and accounting do. I would have sought to become a teacher of US & European History and Geography.

But...as Indianapilot correctly states, it's very difficult (if not impossible) to change careers once you're pretty far along one path. For me, I'm now trying to get into grad. school and pursue international business, which will hopefully allow me to spend time in Europe and Germany specifically.

I'd also want to go back earlier, to when I was younger and try to stand up to the people who picked on me a lot. Even if I didn't prevail, it would be better than just running the opposite direction and doing nothing. I still do the same thing today but in different situations...not good.  Insane

If I could go back in time, it'd be to the beginning of my Junior year in High School, so I could stop myself from throwing away the only relationship that meant anything to me. I'm still hurting from it. Word of advice, NEVER take someone, or anything for that matter, for granted!  Crying  Crying  Crying  Crying

You can go back in time.

You can go all the way back to today, right now!

Tomorrow you won't be able to do that anymore. Want to change something? Start now.

IndianaPilot believe me, at 25 you are just a kid. If you want to change something then march boldly forward and change it. Start now. I've known guys who became pilots in their late 30's, even late 40's. Death is nature's way of telling you it is too late. Short of that, go for it.

I can't even think of all the huge changes I've made in my life, career, and general circumstances after twenty five. Believe me, 25 to 35 is a great age for making big changes. If you say that you want to make changes in your life then any difficulty you may see, any argument you can offer for staying the same is just one more reason why you must make the changes.

I am in the process of making major changes in my life, career, geographical boundaries and hobbies and I am lots older than 25. I have hiking boots that are older than you are.

Want to change something. Good! Go do it. You WILL be able to do it and you will be proud of yourself when you do. I'd like to hear back from you on the results.

I would have played a team sport in high school or college. There certainly were opportunities, especially in college - it had plenty of teams, and was in Division III with no recruiting or athletic scholarships, meaning that almost anyone who wanted to play a sport, could. Unfortunately, I was pretty much of a couch potato in high school and college, even though the term didn't actually exist at the time.
I'm now much more into fitness, unfortunately at 40+ there are very few opportunities for team sports in my area. Most men, once they pass 35 or 40, seem to have no interest in anything more physical than watching the game on TV or maybe an occasional round of cartball  Sad

I would try to go back in time to early may 2004, and not book that DUB-LHR return ticket, thus avoiding meeting with a rhaat of individual

Good idea indeed.

Go back to 1980 and do college all over again, but with MORE self confidence, and LESS goofing off.

I would have cleaned up the runway before the Concorde crash! Could you imagine those beauties gracing the skies today?!

If I couldn't clear up the runway and the crash still happened, I would have jumpseated on the last flight.

Cheers

If i could go back in time i'd be tempted to change alot of things, but as time has gone by i've learnt that there's no point in regretting what you can't change. So, i guess the one thing i should've done in the past is get my pilots license instead of blowing all my money on travelling to other countries! But if i'd have gotten my pilots license instead of travelling, then i wouldn't have ended up living in Canada.....so having no regrets works just fine for me  Smile
Ohh wait, there is one thing i would change.....i wouldn't have given up my leftie guitar, hell i might have been half decent at playing it by now!!!!!

Cheers

As painful as my experience was in upstate NY, I would not change my life to have stayed here in Cleveland for my whole life. I *did* learn a lot of hard lessons there, but they were lessons that I have used since I moved back... Some were counterintuitive, others were practical. I am a better person for having survived that ten year ordeal.

Wow...now that is a hard one! Going back in time....there are so many things that I would love to experience again......but I wouldn't change my life for anything. Things may not have always gone the way I planned them but I do believe everything happens for a reason and even when things were really bad....I kept telling myself it could be worse!  Big thumbs up

So....I guess my answer to this question is NO....I would want to go back in time!

actually i thought of this right after 9/11....although it's not about me, but about something that affected me...

i wished i could go back into time and change the weather on 9/11 to solid IMC, so that no flights would have taken off, and maybe from there somehow their plans would have been foiled because of a later date.... it'll always be a wish and nothing more....
