MLB Winter Meetings: How's Your Team Doing?

Sun Dec 12, 2004 7:19 am

So far it's been an interesting few days with a lot of signings. How has you team fared so far this off-season? Do you agree with the transactions your team has made?

Red Sox:
-Signed set-up man Matt Mantei cheap
-David Wells to 2-year deal.
-Pretty much agreed with Pedro on a contract(it's just a matter of time until it's official)
-Reportedly VERY close to signing SS Edgar Renteria to a 4-year deal.
-No one else seems interested in Varitek and he has lowered his demands for the Sox.
-Dave Roberts is expected to be traded to SD for Jay Payton and Ramon Vasquez
-Either Kevin Millar or Doug Mientkiewicz will probably be traded.

The World Champions have improved over last year if all these deals go through, which could very well happen over the weekend. The David Wells signing was a little suprising, but I like it. Nice job Theo!

The Detroit Tigers were interested in 3B Troy Glaus (he signed w/ Arizona)

The Detroit Tigers were interested in 2B Jeff Kent (he signed with LA)

The Detroit Tigers were interested in CF Steve Finley (did he sign with Anaheim??)

Now the Tigers are interested in Minnesota 3B Corey Koskie.

So far, the Tigers only off-season signing ---Troy Percival.

The Yanks have been quiet so far. Just a few signings

SP Jaret Wright
2nd Baseman Tony Womack

While it is sad to see Boomer wear the Red Sox's uniform, he just isn't worth the time and money anymore. Sorry David but in my eyes you've ruined yourself.

It seems that SP Carl Pavano will sign with the Yanks and it remains to be seen what will happen with Randy Johnson and Carlos Beltran.

The Sox signed John Halama as a relief pitcher for a 1 year/$1 million deal. He was pretty good coming out of the 'pen for the Devil Rays last year.

Looks like Petey is going to the Mets. Sad But at this time a year ago A-Rod was said to be the shortstop for the Red Sox so you never know until it's official.

Too late. He signed with Toronto.

Indians have only made one deal-traded Matt Lawton to the Pirates for pitcher Arthur Rhodes. That does fill a need-the Indians need a solid left set-up man, and Rhodes can fit that bill.

But they wanted Russ Ortiz; they wanted John Leiber; they wanted Troy Percival; they wanted Matt Clement.

They wouldn't pony up enough for the first 3, and they're waiting to see if Clement will take their offer or not.

Unfortunately for the Indians, they have an owner that can't afford to run a MLB team, so he refuses to try and pay anyone. He keeps saying he'll step up when the team contends, but don't hold your breath.

Hey ElectraBob, hang in there. Dombrowski is one of the smarter GMs in baseball, and all the money not spent on the likes of Glaus, Finley, et. al. can be spent elsewhere. If Al Kaline could not convince Pavano over a lunch at Oakland Hills, is was not going to happen.

It's just great to see an icon franchise like the Tigers back in the mix.
Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!
