Comet Machholz

Mon Dec 13, 2004 1:49 am

Hi all, finally saw my second comet this year, C/2004 Machholz.
Went out with my new scope at 2320 last night here in the north UK (after waiting days for a break in the clouds I got a 6 hour clear period.)
Machholz is not a mag 5.4 object and can be seen to the south of Orion near the Lepus constellation.
It looked just like a fuzzy snowball in the telescope, with a hint of a nucleus and a tail.
I understand its been seen with optical aid in the city of Boston (USA), I was wondering if anyone else has been able to find or see it yet.
I cant wait till it gets to mag 4 and nears M45 on Jan 7th.
Its not the fall that kills u, its the sudden stop at the end..
