What To Expect Living In Idaho? (Payette - Boise)

Tue Dec 14, 2004 7:22 am

Greetings,

One of my cousins (17 year-old female) is just about to travel to the United States under an exchange company. She was assigned to spend her full-year program in Payette, Idaho, a small town located near the Idaho-Oregon border, some miles away from the state capital.

She's been several times in the US, but has not stayed longer than a month or a couple of days, and always in bigger and better-known cities as Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Francisco; as well as in smaller towns in North Carolina.

As for myself, I was in Idaho once, but it was because of a trip by road that were doing all throughout the western United States; don't remember much though.

She's a bit anxious and kind of scared. What can she expect? How's life in Idaho (a mainly agricultural state IIRC)? Any comments, details or experiences that any of you can post would be welcomed, from both residents or people who've visited....

Thanks again.

Lots of mountains and undeveloped land...

But seriously, its a beautiful part of the country, a part I like better than the cities and urban areas.  Smile

Expect the best state! Really, Idaho is a wonderful place, with something for everyone. There is a lot more to the state than potatoes. Boise is a pretty nice city, and Payette is great. If she wants information about Idaho, please put her in contact with me. My email is in my profile.

As previously being username IloveBOI,

Idaho is honestly my favorite state. I've been to the Payette area a few times. I don't think it should take too long to visit some of the best areas of Idaho . As for Boise, the Boise area is of perfect size...The Metro population area is about 500,000 people. Beautiful city it is, especially when you land. It's like landing in a desert and then you see an oasis.

Here is a list of websites you can go to that are very helpful:

For Photos:

For Weather (It says Boise, but it'll most likely be the same in Payette as well):

A place for stuff to do around here:

Lots of stuff...

Sorry for so many photos, and gloating about Boise so much, but I hope it helps.

Idaho is a big, nice, beautiful state, and I'm sure your cousin will love it here.

There are really only two places worth visiting or staying in Idaho:

Treasure Valley and Moscow.

Boise/Nampa/Caldwell/Payette actually has stuff: museums, mall, airport, hockey team, state capital and Moscow is a college/party town, but not the stupid kind.

Honestly, I think Boise is the best of Idaho. I got a chance to wander around downtown and it is still beautiful as ever. If your cousin is into geology, she should spend a weekend in Burns, Oregon. Wrights Point is fascinating and the drive through the Alvord Desert is amazing.
