If You Had To Choose One Car Out Of These....

Tue Dec 14, 2004 2:33 pm

-Lamborghini Murcielago

-Porsche Carrera GT

- Ferrari 360 Modena

-Ford GT

-Mercedes / McLaren SLR

Which one out of all these bad boys would you pick? I would pick the Carrera GT! Obvious choice!

Personally I would take the Porsche or the Ford GT. The other ones looks like cheap plastic cars.

Where did the Enzo go? That would be my top choice.

But in all reality, why have one of these when you can have an E55 or M5, which are much cheaper, more practical, yet perform fairly equally given what they are? Also, they don't look too fast to the untrained eye, so it would be fun to snap them Vette/Camaro/Mustang drivers egos in half.  Wink/being sarcastic

But to respect your thread, and its options, I would have to go with the Carrera GT. It is a beast and a half.

the Carrera GT rivals the Enzo not the base 360. I would take the Enzo given the choice but will have to settle for a 360 or 626bhp SLR

None them to be honest but if I had to keep one of those, I'd go with the Ford GT.

If one were to be given to me, I'd take one of the expensive European ones and sell it. Use that money for flight school.
I'd still keep my old Lincoln.

One thing that wonders me a little bit.

Why does people outside Germany even want to spend so damn much money on a car if you are not allowed to drive fast in them?
I understand that people in Germany does it because they have the Autobahn. But the rest of the world. Do they have unlimited speed limit on their Interstates as well?

Edit: typos

Lamborghini Murcielago Smile

Of topic, but today I read in the paper that a man that was seriously considering buying a Porsche Carrera GT (New Zealand version) crashed it while on a test drive......he lost control going around a sharp corner and crashed throu a wooden barrier and landed in the stream. A passer by the witnessed the crash said "only one word to describe it BUGGER"

Damn 126mph is like 200km/h  Wow!
That is pretty impressive  Big thumbs up
The fastest I have been driving is about 143mph. And that was in a Volvo S60 T5 on Autobahn 1½ year ago. And that felt pretty fast.
The fastest I have been driving in the US is 100mph. The damn rental car had a chip so I couldnøt go faster.

I totally agree. The fines should be measured of of how much you make pr. year. The only nordic countries I think they don't have it in is Denmark. I wish it was the same here as well. The rich people should feel that they are breaking the law.

As far as high-end Euopean cars, I'd rather have a Jaguar Vanden Plas, Mercedes 6.9 or a Soviet era Zil limosine. Also the Mercedes 560SL convertible.  Smokin cool

Hehe.... Honestly I'm more in to bigger cars. I'm not into the sports things either. I wouldn't mind have a nice big SUV instead of one of the sportscars. I want to have the feeling of driving. And I don't know if I would get that in a sportscar like Ferrari and the other brands.

I don't drive. I cruise Big grin

Superfly,

Actually, in the late '60s and very early '70s, many Motown luxo-boats (Lincoln Continental/Cadillac DeVille/Imperial LeBaron) were capable of keeping up with most of the European sports cars of the time speedwise. The only edge that the Euro sports cars had then was just handling and cornering.

Back to topic at hand, of the cars listed, I would choose the Corvette that DeltaGuy posted.

Personal choice for me would be the never-produced Mercury Marauder convertible with a 5.4L V8 stuffed under the hood. A sporty car with room.

The SLR. I'm a big fan of the 04 SL500's. The SLR takes the base design of that car.

I do like the Porsche though, and I am not a Porsche fan at all.

I didnt add the Enzo because it is going for $1 Million US on the aftermarket. That is, IF you can find one....which you basically cannot. The most expensive of all those is the SLR, which costs about 500,000 dollars. Then comes the Carrera GT, the Lambo, the Ferrari, and The Ford. All of which are above $200,000. Still, I would take teh carrera GT. I got to see one in person, up close, and man, that thing is mesmerizing. What a machine! The Exhaust sound on it is like, music, quasi Orgasmic. (I love cars about as much as I do planes). lol.....

Ahhh yes, right out near NAS Fallon...out the main gate and off ya go.

In Florida, provided you have a good radar detector, you can make 155-160 (MPH!) with noone looking...sometimes you just gotta heat up the rubber!

Being an ex-Ford and GM designer, I'd gladly take the Ford GT. I actually drove a couple of the originals back in the sixties for a weekend or two. Rather impressive but still quirky on the street. I opted for a Pantera in 1972, bought three Panteras consecutively (still have one 1972 model stored) for street drivers up to about 1980. Although most amenities are standard (air, windows, etc), power steering was not and this coupled with a five speed became somewhat tiresome in normal traffic. Low to the ground and packaged for small farts like me, it's not a good choice for those approaching 6' height.

The new Ford GT seems to have all the necessary comfort toys with acceptable entry/egress packaging. I'd love to drive one someday. Getting rather old in tooth, I'm thinking about a C6 convert (when they debug the top mechanism and finally get into reliable production), but must admit that I like driving wifey's 300C so much, I frquently steal it from her. If I feel cool towards the C6 when one becomes avail, I might even get a 300C for myself when the supercharged version becomes avail.

If limited to the other choices on your list, I'd go for the Porsche or Lambo. The Ferrari leaves me cool and I think the Mercedes looks a bit tooo "batman". Regards...Jack

Give me a 1995 Chevy Caprice LT1 or a 2004 Police Interceptor any day. Both those cars pack a lot of power, thought the LT1 is the more powerful of the two. They have the perfect combination of performance and capacity-performance of a sportscar but the ability to be used for just about every aspect of everyday life.

ScottishLaddie - I have always LOVED the NSX! What a beautiful car! I do want them to come out with a new version of it though. It would be very cool if it had a hybrid engine too.

Out of the original group, I'd go for the Mercedes or the Porsche.

The only Ford I ever owned was a P.O.S. 1990 Ford Taurus. I paid $3600 for it and put nearly that much into in repairs the 2 years I owned it. After that, I never want another Ford again. Ford is one of two brands I'll never buy again, the other being Nissan (Which gave me just as many problems as the Ford did). Of the cars I've ever owned, GM and Dodge have been the best ones I've owned. I've owned two GM (1979 Buick Regal, 1997 Chevy Lumina) and two Dodge (1988 Dodge Lancer, 2003 Dodge Stratus) and had minimum problems with these four cars. Other than the wrecking the two GMs (Put the Regal back together, scrapped the Chevy) and blowing up the motor in the Lancer (My own fault there, as I kept forgetting to get the oil changed, I was young and stupid), other than brakes and tires, the only times I ever had to put these cars in the shop was to put a rebuilt tranny in the Regal and a new condenser motor for the Chevy's a/c system.

The Taurus is a poor example of a Ford. I never understood why those sold so well. They aren't meant to be high milage vehicles.
When I speak of Ford I am refereing to there V8, rear drive cars (Thunderbird, Mustang, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car, Maurader and LS).
Not too many other car brands have rear drive platforms but they are making a comeback.

That further fuels my desire to gut all smog emissions, put the original running gears from the early 1970s on to my car. That f--king narcissist bastard name Arnold in Sacramento signed some new laws in the hopes of winning the hearts of a few tree huggers!

Superfly,

First and foremost, I was a bit surprised that Arnold did that. Then again, when Tom Ridge first became governor here in PA back in '95; the auto emissions inspection laws and policies he signed gave the Keystone State the highest cost auto inspections in the country. I voted third party when he was up for re-election in '98 as a protest vote.

For the record, there is not one Democrat that would back gutting smog emission regulations. In fact, during the campaign, Kerry and company were accusing W of possibly doing just that if re-elected. Side note: Had there been a GOP-controlled House and Senate during Reagan's presidency, many of the smog and fuel economy regulations would have been stripped or abolished.

Enough on that subject.

When I speak of Ford I am referring to there V8, rear drive cars (Thunderbird, Mustang, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Town Car, Maurader and LS).
Not too many other car brands have rear drive platforms but they are making a comeback.

Actually, there are other car brands out there that have a majority of RWD cars in their fleet; however, they're all imports... mostly European:

BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Lexus, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Porsche, and nearly every exotic sports car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maseratti, etc.) out there.
