The Beast: BMW M6

Wed Dec 15, 2004 12:53 am

I know, I'm the only one who likes BMWs designs, still I dare to post again pics of a new one, in my opinion the most beautiful of all of them: The M6.

507HP, 0-200 in less than 14 seconds.

This car is fantastic! I absolutley love BMW desgins, you are certainly not the only one who likes them.

Now here is another nice photo: I like that you can see the wheel design in it.

Gotta Love the Bimmers!

As a BMW owner, fortunately a pre-Bangleized 3-series, I think that M6 is freaking fugly!

The 6 series is the only version of the new generation BMWs that I think looks 'pretty'. It had LOADS of road presence, and that M6 looks superb.

I thought you meant 0-200MPH in 14 seconds lol... I was like wow! But still, there's just something about this car and all the other new BMWs that makes it repulsive looking. Maybe it's the angry headlights/rounded grill combo.

I'm also a BMW owner (E39), and the Bangle designs are growing on me. I am a 4-dour guy. The 6 is the best Bangle effort to date. Will the M6 share the V10 going into the new M5?

I love the brand. And I love how they handle - nothing feels as good.

But the whole BMW lineup right now is a mess. Putting an "M" on a Bangle concept is not enough to make me like it. He has really damaged the whole character of BMW in general.

The M6 is no different, unfortunately. Not only is it ugly, it doesn't have the quality of past BMW's. If you actually get in one and drive around in it, you'll think you're riding in a GM or Chrysler product - which I don't mean as a compliment.

I beg to differ Diamond. I recently test-drove an E60 545i, and it handled and feeled even better than an E39 M5. Still classes above the brands you mentioned and most other car manufacturers.

Yes it will share the same V10 rated at 507HP.

I also beg to differ. I have driven nearly every car in BMWs current lineup from the 745i to the Z4 and they still deliver nearly perfect handling as past cars.

My mom has a 2004 530i and it even outclasses the past 5-series. Nothing like any product from GM or Chrysler.

I test drove the new 5-series before I bought my 325i, I had no affection for the cheap materials used in the interior...They seemed to be sourced from the GM catalog - Malibu edition. BMW has got to get their sh@t together and quit the cost-cutting to produce profits that is cheapening their product. There comes a point when the consumer will just say 'no' to being overcharged for materials that are so pathetic.

On the looks of a Bangle-ized BMW, too much disharmony with all of the lines, curves, concave and convex areas, too much confusion for the eye..... I heard that the best way an automaker can make a dollar is to have good styling and charge for it, since it is hard to sell an ugly car....Go figure, it costs the same to produce an ugly or beautiful car....

To the two of you who differed with my opinion, I want to clarify something.

I am not saying that all new BMW's are lacking in quality. I was specifically referring to the 6 series. BMW itself acknowledges a larger number of plastic parts in this car than in any previous model. I am referring to dash and trim components not engine and drivetrain.

I know the car HANDLES well and offers a superb ride and performance. It just does not look and feel as upscale as the rest of their line - on the interior.

I almost always like BMWs designs. But this one is going 0-Ugly in less than a second. I'm not sure why designers forget to design the ass end of cars, but I see BMW is in the same boat as such company; the Chrysler Missfire.

I think it is gorgeous. One thing you have to keep in mind, BMWs (Esp Bangle's BMWs) look MUCH better in person than in photographs. I was not sure that I liked the 6 series, that is until I saw it in person. Absolutely a gorgeous design. It is so unique, nothing else is like it. I think BMW is brave, and showing it, by doing something radical in the styling department. It sets them away from the crowd, Mercedes on the other hand, likes to homogenize their cars, making them all look the same..... boring....wanted tooooo badly to be classy.... etc....

Jeremy Clarkson is the most subjective car critic there is, and for him, anything made in Germany (BMW, Mercedes, etc) already has a low start, and needs to make everything up to be on par with the other cars in the same class. I find it pretty pathetic...

AA777,

Funny, the traffic situation here in sunny, warm Southern California is a great equalizer - my 185 hp 325i performs just the same as a 507 hp M-vehicle when traffic is crawling along at 20 mph.... Of course, people like you would never even think of the real world instances while you're in your cream-jean dream world.....

Your 'real world' application of traffic moving all day at 20mph isn't exactly 'real world' since southern California is one of the few places where this exists.

Flight152,

You didn't answer my question. Since you stated that living in the Southern California area is a problem for me then please explain why you think this is so. I ask this since you seem so concerned about my welfare - and I'm trying to figure out why, do you have a crush on me? Or are you really that good natured and you want everybody to have a traffic-free lifestyle, blue skies that never rain, instant money whenever it's needed, food when it's asked for etc.

If you can't answer my question then please refrain from directing your unsolicited, unwelcome and off-topic statements towards me.

Flight152,

I just wanted to make sure that you understood that I was not complaining about the traffic, I just deal with it. It's the freakin' gravel trucks with their poor seals dropping rocks all over the freeway that I have a problem with....

It's just that my reality here is different then most other peoples realities.....It prevents me from using 507 hp like it should be used, on open roads or a race track.

But I still think the 6 and M6 are ugly, I'm at Crevier every other week and I still can't warm up to the design.

Cheers

Apparently I am offensive? However, to someone such as yourself who would take offense at my comment, and then tell me to F off, I will play the part for you.
I dont know who you think I am, or how you "know" I am living in a "cream-jean" dream world. Do you know me? Do you know if I have money or not? Is it ANY of your business if I do? In case you didnt get the answer to those questions, the answers are all "No."

But you know what, since I am dubbed snotty by the likes of you, Ill say this:
Last time I checked, I am allowed to have an opinion and not have someone rudely respond to something that was a simple benign opinion. And FYI, for the rest of the day and night when there is very little traffic, (when I apparently would be in an M6 because I am suddenly worth over 100,000 dollars (good news to me)), I will be able to smoke you, and 99 percent of the other cars out there. I live in Washington DC, and I will be more than glad to show you how I can drive fast. And in traffic.

AA777,

Correct,

You are offensive - anybody who disagreed with liking the M6 YOU labeled as a 'hater'. I took exception to being called that thus I told you to f@ck off, got it?

Do I care if you have money, or did I bring that up? No, you just did. Who cares?
Do I know who you are? No, I choose not to find out about somebody who cares to street race amongst people who are trying to commute to their final destination.
Did I call you 'snotty'. No, you just brought that up.

If you chose to call me a hater then you can stomach me telling you to 'f#ck off'. You chose to label me and I will label you back, that is not a matter of opinion, as you try to state, but a fact. Deal with it.

I don't care about you. Don't invent a statement that I do otherwise.

Please read this response carefully so you don't hinder yourself with invented statements about me.

You specifically said that i am living in a cream jean dream world. What does that imply? That I am humble and living in a hut? Not so much. Trust me, you wanna play hard ball, I will certainly play.

I dont know why u got so offended that I called people 'haters' its not a terrible thing. But I guess you wouldnt understand that. I didnt label YOU specifically anything, buddy. It was a general comment (and was anyone else offended??.) Not everything that eveyrone says generally applies directly to you. So take some valium and calm down. Maybe your california traffic has made someone a little bit pissy?

I have pasted what you had written, please clarify who you were calling a 'hater'. It seems that I am not aware which of us who posted you are writing to - or is it written to anybody here? Then why was this posted? You say that you're studying Journalism, will you be answering peoples requests when they ask for references for what you have written? Would that be the right, ethical thing to do?

I'll explain the 'cream-jean world' statement since you missed what I inferred to, it means your reality is different than mine and it's different from most other people across this country - what works for you will not necessarily work for me or for Joe Blow in Midtown, Anywhere USA, and what works for me will not work for Joe Blow either. That's it. The only place an M6 will beat me around where I live is at a racetrack, unless you count him getting two car lengths ahead of me on the freeway on ramp while we're going 2.5 mph a 'victory'. I'm content in knowing that the $50K I saved in not purchasing an M6 or M5, or the $25K I saved in not buying an M3, or the $10K I saved in not getting a 330i is tucked away safely in the bank while the qualities that I do like in a BMW are given to me satisfactorily in my 325i. This works for me, and I am very happy with this.

I hope this provides clarity.

And what's the point of that when on the road ?
