"Hijackers" Storm Bus In Greece

Thu Dec 16, 2004 5:11 am

To anyone who hasnt heard the story yet, basically 2 men armed with shotguns and "supposedly" explosives seized a Bus this morning in Athens.
The bus Driver and conductor escaped leaving the 2 armed men without a driver.
Throughout today 3 more people have been let off, but 23 still remain, being held at gunpoint by the 2 men who are claimed to be russian.
The 2 men now want a driver to take them to the airport where they'll release the passengers and board a plane (not likely though.)
After nearly 12 hours of the standoff the 2 men now say the police and Armed response units have until 6am GMT (8am Athens time) to get a driver for the bus or else they'll blow up the bus with explosives.
It means to say its a pretty tense stand-off with not much in the way of progress today.

As you mentioned, there is no way in creation that the police will allow them to board an aircraft. The sooner the hijackers come to that realization, the better the chances for a peaceful end to this incident.

i wish they could slip some sleeping gas into the bus at night time, but i guses ive been playing too much playstation.... it's much harder than it sounds...

the latest is that they have until 8am local time to meet demands....scary

If I am correct, 7 hostages remain in the bus. (00:03 Athens time)

Good move by the bus driver, he effectively removed their capacity to move.

Now, those two idiots have been awake for at the very least 20 hours with a lot of adrenaline pumping. It would surprise me if something was not tried around 4-5am.

If the bus windows did not have curtains, the outcome would have been cut and dried long time ago.

They claim to be Russians, however one of the released claims that they converse in Albanian between them.

The hijack is over!
The two idiots have surrendered themselves.
They were really sily.
Cudos to the Greek police eventhough I hate to honor them.

Happy end for all, except the two skunks who will now enjoy Greek (forced) hospitality for some time.

Vassilis, great free promotion for the companies who had big posters in the vicinity, they had hours of free exposition. The sale of some hamburgers and cars will jump.

It's great to see that the situation has been resolved peacefully. At first when CNN broke in, I thought something bad had happened but then they said that it had been resolved.

Although storming a bus threatening to kill people isnt "sensible", at least they did they "Sensible" thing and surrendered with noone hurt or injured.
Praise also goes to the Greek police and hostage negotiators who helped out in the good outcome without a single shot being fired by the police.
