Osama Vs. Usama

Fri Dec 17, 2004 8:18 pm

Was watching Fox News (fair and unbiased  Big grin ) and noticed that they are now spelling it Usama Bin Laden. When did this change? Is this an attempt at making him seem more "American" i.e. USAma?

I think it's different from person to person.

The same thin happens here in Denmark. Some people say Usama and other people say Osama. But I think Usama is the right name. I'm not sure though.

It all depends on how you pronounce it. If you say, "O sama bin Laden", you spell with the O. If you say, "Usama bin Laden", you spell it with the U.

Either way, the best thing to call him is "scum of the earth". That way, everyone is happy.

"The problem is, we don't know whether it's spelled Usama or Osama. If we knew, they'd probably catch him in a day. Probably looking in the wrong part of the phone book..."

LOL USAma sounds hillarious Big grin.

Arabic language uses the same letter to make the sound of both O and U. To romanize that scumbag's name, either O or U makes sense.

They know where they is but they cant really say the do because you are not allowed to spy on people places and things. I think we know where he is and that we will find it at the end of the next year.

Well, in Japan they'll say USAMA, because "Osama" means 'king' in Japanese...

I remember hearing that it was actually Usama in Arabic, but because the first three letters were USA, it was felt that Osama would be a nicer translation.

I'm no expert on Arabic, just relaying what I heard.

Ussama (in English)
and Oussama (in French)

This is how it is pronounced in Arabic.

I didn't say it would be easy. I just said it would be the truth

I thought it was c*nt in English

AAplatnumflier - Know something we dont?

The sooner we catch him the better, then I think after a wee bit of punishment we strap him to the front of one of those Remote Controlled DC-8s and fly it into a concrete wall.

USAma - probably changed it because it wouldn't look good on his recruiting posters, "Join USAma fight the USA & the rest of civilisation....." :|
