NFL Week 15: How'd Your Team Do?

Sun Dec 19, 2004 6:46 am

Well, it starts early this week. Pittsburgh just got past NYG, with Eli Manning looking pretty good.

My Falcons need to win a couple more to ensure home field advantage. We need to beat Carolina tonight to silence any remaining critics, as well as give us the boost we need into the last two weeks.

Thanks for the date correction...I'm sick in bed today and the brain is less functional than usual.

Pit didn't impress me at all. I'm wondering if the Giants D was 100% if the outcome would have been different. Eli really showed us something today.

It's week 15 technically. The Pack plays Jacksonville tomorrow- should be a good one. I'm also looking forward to the falcons/panthers tonight and ravens/colts tomorrow!

Oh, yea. The Giants might make it in 05, or 06, or 07, or 08, or 09, or 2010, or 2011, or 012...

Probably after Eli Manning retires.

The Browns lost again.

...oh, what? They haven't played yet?

Well, I might as well get a headstart on the inevitable. They should have about 25,000 people there tomorrow at Browns' Stadium: the Browns suck, it will be about 17 degrees, and playing in a heavy snowstorm.

Yeah, just what I want to go see....

I agree....I love playing football in the snow it is the best....until you start sliding. I say once the Browns get Linehert from the Draft they will do better. All they need is defense, a GM, and a coach and they will be half descent.

Well, its late and I just got back up with a runny nose, but all is well because the Falcons won in overtime against a hot Panthers team. These guys are finding ways to win week in and week out.

Vick came through with a big run and managed to keep his knees off the ground until he slid into the endzone at the last seconds of regulation to tie it back up after the Panthers took the lead in the 4th quarter.

We made an interception in the opening drive of OT and kicked a 38 yard field goal to win.

11-3, baby. Green Bay loses or we win again and the first round bye is ours too.

That was an AMAZING, and intense game. Wow. It took some brass for the falcons to come back like that, after those fumbles they were on the ropes. Hopefully tomorrows ESPN game will not fail to impress as well.

I could really do with a boring blowout for the next game. Unfortunately we are playing New Orleans in New Orleans and that always seems to be a close game. Doesn't matter who is doing well or poorly these two teams always get up for each other.

I'll be taking bets on whether Manning goes over 48 td passes today. Baltimore really does not want to be the team that lets this happen, but I don't know how much choice they have. If they focus too much on the leagues number one passer they will get burned by the leagues number one rusher.

Baltimore has some challenges this week to say the least.

Minnesota managed to let this turn into a game. This thing looks like its going into overtime.

NO the lions muffed the snap on the extra point.

That was ugly.

28-27 Vikings.v Tice needed this one.

A little more on that Lions-Vikings game.....

Game tied 21-21.....Vikings score a touchdown with about a minute and 40 seconds left to go and go up 28-21.....the Lions, with no timeouts left, manage to drive 80 yards and score with 8 seconds left to go......

AWRIGHT, we are going into overtime!!!!

Wrong....

THE LIONS BLOW THE FRICKING EXRA POINT...A BAD SNAP FROM CENTER...THEY NEVER GOT THE KICK OFF.......... Vikings win, 28-27.

Oh hell, the Lions would have gotten beat in overtime, anyway.

Remember...they are now competing for the number one draft slot, so take heart.

DL021, next week's game is actually HUGE: Cleveland at Miami, and the rights to trade the #2 pick down come April.

That's what I do if I'm the new GM and coach, once their hired. I dangle that pick in front of a team that's looking for that one more piece, and get their first, their second in '05, and their 1st in '06 in exchange for it-and maybe an offensive lineman.

The Browns should stockpile picks this year and in '06. They need so many players that it's going to take 2 to 3 yeras to become a serious contender. They don't need that one stud, they need about a dozen or so solid, capable NFL players.

Falcon, you are correct.

Any word yet on who the candidates are for CLE on GM/Coach?

Its possible, mathematically for SFO to win their last two. If they do CLE should be a lock for first pick.

Of course, they are playing Buffalo and New England so fat chance.

CLE can't pick up a break.

Peyton Manning just threw #47, and they have the ball back. I think the record gets tied tonight, at the least.

And DL021, the Browns announced this week they'll get serious about looking for a GM after the first of the year. They're doing their "due dilligence" now, getting a good idea of who will be on their long list and short list, then after the 1st of the year, they'll start in earnest.

Rumor in the sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer is that Ozzie Newsome might be interested in the Cleveland GM job, but he'd have to get an unbelievable monetary offer, and a bigger title to come here-plus the Browns might have to surrender a draft pick to get him, and I wouldn't be willing to do that.

Classy and gutsy move by Tony Dungy! I have to give him props.

The Colts intercepted Kyle Boller with less than a minute to go, and take the ball down to the 5 yard line. With tying Dan Marino's single-season TD record beckoning-and at home-Dungy decided to take a knee at the 5, instead of trying to let Peyton Manning tie the record on a meaningless score.

That is a class act.  Big thumbs up

Eagles won 12-7...wasn't able to watch most of it, but listening to the webcast it sounded like we played a terrible game...just caught the highlights on ESPN and week-by-week I see that our other starting WR, Todd Pinkston, is becoming a totall wuss...he now has a new habit of being worried about getting hit and so not making otherwise easy catches...he has a no-confidence vote from me now, I expect his coaches and the Eagles higher-ups will start to notice and feel the same way (if they haven't already)...end of the season I hope he either gets demoted or shipped out of town...the home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs that we clinched is nice, but past precedent shows that it doesnt really mean all that much...

What can you expect from an organization that does not even have the cojones to tell Al Davis that he is wearing womens' glasses?

The Steelers pulled out the 12th straight, a close one, 33-30 over the Giants. Ben had a pretty good game, but the tired and injured defense didn't play so well.

Hopefully some starters will return next week. The injuries are taking a toll on this team.

After watching the Detroit-Minnesota game and the Packer-Jacksonville game I am convinced of one thing...

Move the NFC North to the European league!

As a Wisconsin native and Packers fan for life This year has been nothing but an embarrassment to the NFC and in particular the NFC North and West. The Pack should be used to the cold not using it as an excuse for 3 fumbles and 3 interceptions who the hell was Favre throwing to yesterday? It reminded me of how he played his rookie season.

As for Detroit's extra point kick... pathetic :-(

NFL Week 15: How'd Your Team Do?

The Bears? Horrendous. Here's the situation: The temperature is 12 degrees with a -8 windchill and you're hosting an expansion team from Houston that has never played in weather that cold. Ever. You'd think that would be an advantage? Not for the Bears. Your team defense has held the opposition in check for most of the game, even forcing a safety and has given your offense an average starting field position of the opponenets 40 YARD LINE (!!). You'd think you can score some points with that right? Not the Bears. The Bears performance this week would qualify for the worst in the league except that they're somehow still letting the Cleveland Browns play games.

Just to show how badly the Arizona Cardinals (and their fans, unfortunately) suck? We can barely get 25,000 to a home game on a Sunday in December with sunny, clear skies and 75 degree weather!

Yet somehow they ran past the Rams. Odd.

Big blow for the Eagles here.

Looks like T.O. is done for the season, and will likely miss the playoffs. His ankle injury is going to need surgery.

slam...Reporters from ESPN said that the coaches got ripped in the airplane flying home from Atlanta by Al Davis. I would bet on some serious changes getting made after the end of the season.

n670uw It's worse than that...it looks like a fracture of the patella along with torn ligaments. The pin will be inserted and he will return they hope by the NFC championship but more likely they would hold him until the Superbowl, if at all.

usafhummer...Greg, If Pinkston's started "hearing footsteps" it may be because of his hurt knee. No real excuse for flinching if its fear, but it might be the reason if he's in pain and playing through it.

ea co as...whats worse is that the Cardinals have a chance to win the division (mathematically) with a 7-9 record.

Sure it has. The NFC won like 12 of 13 Super Bowls in the late 80's, early 90's. The AFC just couldn't compete. The tables are turned now. It goes in cycles.
