On French radio, French politicians are already praising the success and wisdom of French foreign policy for getting them back, directly refering to the poor wisdom of Italy and Great Britain, who saw some of their hostages executed.

That was NOT my interpretation. That was precisely what some government minister said on France Info, referring directly to the British and Italians. No interpretation needed.

self congratulation neccesarely implies critics to others?

So what?
Whats not to be self-congratulatory about?
The whole world knows that France was against the so-called coalition of the so-called willing.

Maybe all Western journalists in Iraq should wear a T-shirt that says "Don't take us prisoner; we're French."

What is really offensive is when Blair and Bush (the two Boobs) engage in self-congratulatory prattle even as their citizens continue to be slaughtered.

Glad to hear they were released. Wasn't this the group that wanted France to drop the ban on the headscarfs?

Yes it was. That was previously discussed here:

If what is reported is correct, the hostage "keepers" were praying for Bush to be reelected.
He and his admin have been the best promotion platform they could dream of.
AQ reportedly would be present today in 60 countries and growing fast.

notes:
a/ I said "IF"...
b/ one of the two Frenchies is perfectly fluent in Arabic

Praying is a big word but they basically said they were for Bush.

For French speakers, I recommend you the excelent paper of Georges Malbrunot, one of the 2 ex-hostages relating his 4 month detention on the newspaper Le Figaro, for which he was working:

"I lived in Ben Laden Country":

"You'll be freed tonight":

"They told us :do not come back in Irak":

Their liberation is a beautifull Christmass gift. They were really lucky to made it alive. Also, let's not forget the 30 or so other hostages of various nationality actually beeing held in Irak.

I'd put good money that these "journalists" were never actually captive. Most likey they were running around with the terrorists just like the other French reporters who videotaped the attempted shoot down of that DHL A300 departing from Baghdad. The French reaction (bashing the U.S., U.K., Italy, etc.) and their healthy appearance makes their story of being held by force even less credible.

B757300, babbling propaganda as always... did you even consider the possibility that the photo of them looking healthy might have been taken before they were taken hostage?

Yeah, sure. And no 757 hit the Pentagon, it's only a conspiracy set up by the CIA...
