What Inspired Your Username?

Thu Dec 23, 2004 6:06 am

I've always wondered what inspired the usernames on A.net.

Why did you choose your username? Please tell the story of your username!

My username, SmithAir747, came from my love for 747 classics and the secret dream I have to own my own carrier, SmithAirways. I already have custom-built 2 747-100 models with the special, Celtic-inspired livery of the airline, and I'm now working on a 1:144 Airbus A380 in such a scheme. My username would have been SmithAirways747, but there was not enough space in the form for the full name.

I bet all of you have an interesting story behind your username!
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made... (Psalm 139:14)

I've been called Moose forever (my father has been called Moose forever before that, from our last name, not because we're especially big guys!) I flew KC-135s in the USAF, hence Moose135. I've used it for years as an e-mail address (Juno), screen name, and other various uses.

Maybe not the most interesting story, but it works for me. } Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I always thought a 764, in AA colors would be very cool. Unfortunately, the tired slow A300, has better cargo. So I will not be seeing a 764 in AA colors anytime soon.

Mine was inspired by my lack of imagination.  Smile Just my First initial, middle initial, and first two letters of my last name. The "00" was from when I graduated high school. I've been using this as an AIM screenname for a long time now.

Sabena was my favorite airline, the 332 is my favorite plane. OO-SFP once flew me from BRU to ATL, then I continued from there to SFO on DL and spent an awesome month in California.

My identifier is the airport identifier for our home airport-kind of our aviation address since we live on the airfield (it's a residential airpark).

I was in Navy Air and my first assignment was to An A-6 intruder outfit an NAS Oceana in Virginia. I was assigned to the Line Div. and became a Plane Captain( Navy terminology for Crew Chief). I did this for 2 1/2 years and went to some really neat places. Except for some jerky NCO's, I really loved the work too. Hence, the "handle".A-6' will always have a special place with me because I served a WestaPac with this outfit and had one hell of a time. Look at my tag line at the bottom of the post.

Deltaguy came from just stuff I've heard around Delta pilots and other Delta dudes....whenever they're taking about somebody to somebody else, they'd go "so, he's a Delta guy too?", something like that, inferring that he's part of the family...occasionally a pilot will go "oh, so you're a delta guy too huh?" when I tell em of my dad...kinda just stuck in my head, and I was registering on 9/11/2001 to post a response, and it was the first thing to come to my mind.

IHadAPheo is short for I Had A Pheochromocytoma..

A Pheochromocytoma is a tumor of the adrenal glands (well any Chromaffin cells but usually in the adrenal medulla). In my case it is related to my having neurofibromatosis. Back in 1987 while I was having a minor surgical procedure taken care of my undiagnosed at thattime pheochromocytoma decided to react with the anesthetic being used. This caused me to be coded on the table and after a time intubated and in ICU I had a right adrenalectomy to remove the "pheo".

I have a 10% chance ofavinganother pheo occur on the other adrenal gland but so far so good.

When living in England, during my degree, I fell in love with a Lebanese girl, wrote some poems and acted like a typical romantic jerk.

With my flatmates, we once watched "Dead Poets' Society", and one of the character was named Knox Overstreet, and if you know the movie, he acted kind of like I did.

So the mates started to call me Knoxibus (because I think once in the movie, Knox's buddies call him Knoxibus, i.e. the latin way), and then it stuck to me.

It's my nickname for freaking everything! (e-mail, forum nick, ultimate freesbee jersey, etc....)

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.  Smokin cool

But, if you want to know anyway - Garnet is one of the colors of my alma mater, the University of South Carolina. The Palmetto is the state tree of South Carolina. While it's found mostly in the Southeast, it's pretty tolerant of different climates and can survive in temperatures as low as 7 degrees. It's also a strong tree in that it can survive hurricane force winds, but the key to its strength is its flexibility. Tolerance, strength, and flexibility all happen to be characteristics I admire in people, including myself. So, there you have it - it's an homage to my roots, the lessons I've learned, and characteristics I idealize.
South Carolina - too small to be its own country, too big to be a mental asylum.

FSPilot747. I was a Student Pilot at Fullerton Airport when I chose this username, so I was like ok "Fullerton Student Pilot," and 747 is the queen of the skies.

The username got old fast. I go by "Aeronautik" on all other discussions boards/AIM.

Well mine is a really long story:

It all began the day I was born, 16th of November 1987. I popped out in Paisley's Hospital where I was given the name Gary Wright. Gradually Primary school came along and by Primary3 I was known as Gaz or Gazza (Gazza due to my amazing football/soccer skills Big grin). The nicknames stuck and from then on I have been referred to as Gaz, by family and friends alike.

The GLA part came about when I really began to take an interest in aviation. My holidays abroad and trips to watch the planes landing and taking off sparked my interest and GLA was the focal point. As I got older I began to visit more regulary, taking pictures and taking an interest in the airports 'goings on'.

Really its just my nickname is Gaz and fav airprot is GLA, but I thought I make it interesting....... :P

Thank you, and good night Big grin
