Three Soldiers From My Unit Were Shot At In Gaza.

Thu Dec 23, 2004 9:06 am

On December the 16, an infiltrator shot at an observation post in Gaza injuring 5 soldiers. 3 out of the 5 were soldiers from my unit. Even more so, they went through basic training with me. It was a real shock for my whole team to hear about it. Especially the first minutes when you don't really know any details yet. Thank god they came out of this incident only lightly wounded. The three were hospitalized for a few days and now are recovering at home.

My unit is based in the Golan Heights. We do observation work on the northern border using special equipment. During the operation in Gaza a few months ago my unit was asked to send a team down to Gaza as backup.

This is the first time that I ever knew a person that was injured under those circumstances. Only days before the incident I was told that I might have to replace one of the soldiers there. I don't want to imagine what I would have done I was there at the time.

I just hope the will recover as soon as possible.

Sam.

Note: This is not an attempt to light up another unnecessary argument. I just want you to hear about some of my experiences as an Israeli soldier.

Out here the same occurs in Kashmir.
When Foreign militants move with the Local population & Attack where as the Defense forces have to be careful who they hit back at.

I suggest you leave the army and start writing tragedy manuscripts, where I believe that you will perform brilliantly well.

Anyway, I wish you end your military service and never been called back.

...(never to kill and never being killed).
I didn't say it would be easy. I just said it would be the truth

My story is nothing compared to a lot of other Israelis with much more tragic stories than mine. Anyhow, I end my mandatory service in 10 months. My service to the country doesn't end there. I'll have to give a month per year as a reserve soldier.

Sam, I don't know about the rest of the people on here, but your service to your homeland is greatly appreciated. Your work does not go unnoticed by those of here in the US, we support you. Best of luck at the front of the battle, hope your comrades are back in the fight with you soon.
