Channel 4 Censored Gremlins!

Fri Dec 24, 2004 12:33 am

I was watching Gremlins whilst browsing the forums and it got to the part where the guys mum puts one of the Gremlins into the microwave and turns it on, then C4 actually cut the part where she turns it on and 'it' blows up! I presume they did it to stop kids putting their cat in the microwave but it is a bit stupid really.

Has anyone got any tales of pointless cuts during films?

Think you got censorship, try what has happened here in the USA on commercial TV since the Super Bowl 'wardrobe malfuction' of Janet Jackson, where she flashed her right breast. Now even PBS has to shadow out nudity of programs! Many live programs have delays to blip out a slip of tounge from stupid people. Recently when a major commercial network (ABC, owned by Disney) showed 'Saving Private Ryan', some affiliates in the 'Bible belt' areas wouldn't show it due the violance and language and fears of complaints. We can show violence, especially in cop and news shows, we can talk silly about sex, we can have intelligence insulting reality or sitcom programs, but show a breast or drop a f-bomb and your asking for a fine from the FCC.

I was watching Alistair Sim in a Christmas carol last night and it was cut to $hit.

Many key events missed. It was bloody disappointing. Then I remembered I had it on DVD  Smile

Boggles the mind how they could cut a classic like that. A true shame.

If anyone over here watched the British Comedy Awards, Matt Groeining was on, and gave us 4 sentences which American censors had cut, but the British allowed.

Seems things are getting censored way too much now, even hand gestures are blurred out and when someone swears there mouth is blurred so you can't lipread.

Mhodgson, yeah I watched it last night. Remember the sodomise one...lol.

I was surprised when Steven Hawkins made an appearance. Kudos to the guy, I really respect him.

Really uptight people always ruin the fun. The superbowl incident was really ironic, because ive seen more boobs in commercials over in germany.

in general im really annoyed when they censor the middle finger. GEE-I WONDER WHAT COULD BE BEHIND THAT-A FREAKIN BANANA?

They did it again today with Gremlins 2 where one is being dropped into the shredder, you see the before and after but no during.

They don't make it obvious though so you only notice it's been cut if you have watched them both previously.
