Best SAT Prep Course

Tue Dec 28, 2004 10:23 am

Hey I was wondering if anyone in here is taking the SAT in march/may/june and if anyone can recommend to me which classes are best? Right now it seems that princeton review seems the best...

Use Princeton Review... they WRITE the damn thing, how could you go wrong there?  Nuts

From someone who took the SAT-1 seven times, trust me... anything else would be a waste of your energy.

I would also look at Kaplan...I'm using their books and software for GMAT (biz. school) preparation, and find it very useful, especially the interactive CD-ROM.

I would recommend taking as many simulated practice tests as you can, so that when test day comes, sitting down for 3+ hours will not be a problem for you. As I learned from the SAT and GMAT (1st attempt), it's more of a test of your ability to stay focused for that period of time. It's all about test stamina. You can be a Math or English wizard, but if you're not used to the test, format, and length, you're dead in the water.

Good luck! The SAT has changed quite a bit I understand since I took it in 1990.

I took princeton review. It was great. I raised my score basically 200 points. Really was worth the time and money.

Show up for high school.

That was all I did and I got a 1275.
Things were better when it was two guys in a dorm room.

So did I. I missed maybe 15 days over a 4-year period, had a 3.7 GPA in college-prep. classes, blah blah blah. Guess what? Only got an 890 on that stupid test. Didn't do much better on the ACT back then, either. Either you're good at taking tests, or you're not.

The reason I suggest Kaplan is because of their interactive CD, which seems to be helping me on the GMAT, which will hopefully be the last standardized test by ETS I ever have to take again!

My girlfriend took the Kaplan LSAT prep course, she said it made a real difference.... She never took the test before the course so there is no real scientific proof to go with this... just another 2 cents worth.

I had to take the damn thing 6 times...I was competing for a Service Academy appointment (Navy), so my dad thought I was best off taking it an excessive amount of times. I did no prep other than go to bed early for it, eat a good breakfast, and that's it....got an 1130 my first time, 1280 next time, and all my 4 other scores were 1150-ish....so taking it alot of times does NOT help....so do it twice, max  Smile

yea I plan on taking it twice... its so odd though with the new scale.. because like now you really don't know what to expect.. and what everyones going to get. Like I know exactly where I should be on a 1600 scale... but now with this 2400 crap I don't know any more.. I think they should of kept it as 1600 and made the sections like 600/600/400

I took it once, and got into the school of my choice, no classes or anything. The worst thing you can do is stress about the whole situation.
