AXE Deodorant Called....

Sun Jan 02, 2005 5:24 pm

Today, I went to the store to look for deodorant supply. I noticed that AXE products. It reminds me last week. The product called tsunami. I don't like that see this product. They shouldn't called something like that name of catastrophe like that! It makes me sick to see this. I didn't buy it.

Check products and look scroll down name of product:

http://www.drugstore.com/templates/brand/default.asp?brand=25736&aid=336064&aparam=xsp76658

What do you think of that product?

Well, it was obviously named before recent events in Asia, and will probably be re-named soon. Everyone has a negative connotation to the word tsunami now, that they didn't have before the tsunami. Before the tsunami, none of us would probably have thought twice about the name.

So a Tsunami occurs and now nobody can use the word anymore? Should we change the name of September because of September 11, 2001? Come on, let's get real here people.  Insane

The product has been out for a long time.

????

What does AXE mean ? I don't see the relation with "tsunami".
May somebody explain ?

For those who are interested (very few I guess), AXE is made by the French Fabergé, and "axe" means "axis" in French.

AXE is a brand of deodorant body sprays and Tsunami is the name of one of their fragrances. It's been around for a while here in North America. Tsunami I think is their most popular one.

Oh jeez the fragrance is called Tsunami...damn, say it aint so. I feel for the victims of the horribly tragedy in Asia, but are you seriously saying that they should stop calling the product Tsunami?

While were on the subject, we will now change September to Augtober because of September 11th... please.

Bad things happen... if your so intent on it being such a big part of your life (Which dont get me wrong, is honorable), do so by providing monetary aid... leave the companies who are trying to make money alone... If AXE decided to rename the fragrance Tsunami-Everywhere-Except-Asia now, then we can talk...

Tsunami's have been around for a long time, killing many in that time. I was actually in a tsunami when I was younger, luckily it was a much smaller one, only carrying waves of about 1 foot high.

Not necessarily. Some man in the Andamans has named his son Tsunami. The kid was born on the day.

Bad luck for the Axe product I guess. Tsunami is a strange name to call a deoderant anyways. What's a tsunami got to do with smelling fresh? Nevertheless I wouldn't stop buying it just because of the name and it's association with the disaster in the Indian Ocean. If anything it should inspire people to think more about what happened and be more concerned.

If I were Axe marketers though I think a name like "Ocean Fresh" or "Ocean Breeze" would have been more logical to start with. A tsunami is exactly what it implies, a tidal wave that destroys everything in it's path... so what are they suggesting, you smell so bad you need an extreme product to rid your body of B.O.? Kinda insulting don't ya think? LOL

Wow. How pathetic.

A Tsunami was a natural occurrence way before this happened, keep the name of the product.

trust me you'll get addicted to it... People always make the mistake of spraying it then smelling it and they always say its to strong. But spray it on you and your clothes and wait about 2 mins and then it smells so good.

Well shit, maybe they should rename the popular mixed drink "Hurricane". I mean after all those 'canes in Florida this year, who would want to get hammered off of something that has destructive connotations.

On the same note, maybe Kahlua should rename their "Mudslide" as well. Do you realize how many people have actually died during mudslides?

There used to be a nightclub in JAX named Tsunami's when I lived there in the late '90's. Not sure if it's still called that but if so they should change their name then for sure.

It could become a problem when the intense news coverage of the disaster aftermath should firmly implant the association of "tsunami" not with "fresh water" but with "stench of decaying bodies".

If that should happen, they´d be forced to ditch the name.

Not that it was a particularly fortunate choice in the first place... "tsunami" has always meant catastrophy for all who knew the reality...

Lets ban the word hurricane, because of what happened to Florida last summer.

While were at it, lets ban tornado, fire, earthquake, etc, etc.

The name existed before the disaster, and there is no way this was something trying to capitalize on a disaster.

this reminds me of how the teenage mutant ninja turtles had to be changed to Teenage mutant HERO turtles......

according to the posted mentality...

we should also get rid of the word Laden and Ladin from the English language for obvious reasons...

Tsunamis have been around longer than we have, and they will be, it's only some sort of metaphor which is carried in a name....

and the name of the disaster wasn't a Tsunami...it was a flood that drowned people....tsunami is just a giant wave..nothing more.

Nope, don't get it.

I just ran out of my AXE Tsumani deodorant today. Its a good pruduct line and the fragrances are OK. Other AXE fragrances that I use are:

Phoenix, Essense, Kilo, Orion, Voodoo

By the way, I forget the maker, but there is a car out there called a Tiburon, (Honda or Hyundai?) Tiburon is shark in spanish. People die from sharkbites every year. No big deal in the name.

I don't think AXE introduced this fragrance line onto the market on Dec. 27, 2004, did they? So, what's the big deal? It's just name and no one intended to benefit from the disaster. Political correctness of certain people seem to have reached bizarre dimensions.

There's an expensive restaurant in downtown West Palm Beach that is south asian themed, its name: Tsunami

No one seems to care because it was extremely busy last weekend!

Axe is basically deodorant body spray, but in my mind it's cologne for cheap people. It lasts a good amount of time but its expensive! I still prefer the old Brut deodorant in the spray can.

I said that why they called naming of catastrophe? Why? I hope you understand my question. It is not about to force to stop calling the name.

Shame a tsunami isn't even a tidal wave as it has little to do with the tides. Keep in mind tsunami means "harbor wave" in japanese - where it originated - not tidal wave. Now I guess if the moon came crashing into the earth you could argue the name "tidal wave" a little bit more.  Smile

Never mind.... you don't get it what I said. I said why people do calling name of list like catastrophe: Tornado, Hurricanes, Tsunami, Mudslides, fires, Smoke, and blah blah on the products. WHY? I know that the products was named before occured I am not asking why they put new name quickly after occured It is not what I am talking about. Listen read my question. "Why they calling of catastrophe names?" OK?

Skysurfer,
I bought Lynx in England and it smells the same, but it is much stronger (and lasts longer). Haven't tried Axe Tsunami, but I use Phoenix or Voodoo, the best two.

Anyone know why there is a difference in the name?

And maybe we should change the Arabic word for military base (Qaeda), as it links to OBL and Al-Qaeda... Insane

AXE is still relatively new in comparison.
