He he... I was desperate to say something when I posted it, but I'm trying to control myself!

Alc, Kirkie's the obvious culprit, but Pearson's been unclogging his toilet, so that might be it!

Pe@rson and Kirkie are both in it I think. Kirkie lives nearer and Pe@rson has told him to do it.

Actually, they could probably do with some of the stuff that is being sent to the other side of the world for the Tsunami victims. Having seen new pictures today I think the UK government should send some money to Cumbria and the Borders instead of it going around the world.

As you can see, the water was pretty deep:

In the last picture, it shows part of the roundabout. In the middle of the roundabout, the water will be approx 20-30ft deep  Wow!

Alcregular, 3 dead in Carlisle alone, although this may rise by some.

Some more pics:

As you can see from the tree, that area in the middle of the roundabout is exremely deep.

The cricket ground...I would guess the match is postponed due to a waterlogged pitch  Big grin

No offence, but how does one manage to get killed in a flooding like this? The water level would rise slowly wouldn't it? So there would be enough time to get to higer grounds...  Confused

Thom@s,

You know how dumb some British are, if there's a stupid way to kill themselves, they'll find it. Seriously, They were probably old, they haven't had electricity for three days, and are reluctant to leave their homes. One man has been swept away in a river in Bradford and is presumed dead.

Hmmm, sorry to say it but it sounds "silly" to die in a flood like this. If someone who couldn't swim accidentally fell into the water then I could understand.

I live just a few miles from Bradford and also work in the city. I can vouch that there are plenty of 'below average' people in the IQ department who live there! The guy was probably stood next to the river and decided to take a closer look. Joking aside, I can't speak for Cumbria, but for Bradford at least the floods weren't 'flash floods' just a gradual build up of hours of heavy rain. Of course, any fatalities are tragic and the relatives families will be suffering.

Who's to blame....can I say the current government? They're about to fast track a £20 million flood defence scheme which they unveiled a few weeks ago that they say could have saved "many homes"; pity they didn't think of doing it earlier. Looking at the BBC news, it seems that both police and fire stations are now unusable!

Who's to blame....

How about the people who built houses and other buildings so close to a river.

My Dad always said never buy a house at the bottom of a large hill or near a river.

I live about 1/2 a mile from the local canal, but they don't tend to flood as often as rivers so we should be ok.

Most flood deaths involve people in motor vehicles. They try to drive through flood waters, thinking their vehicles can make it across, and are swept away when the waters turn out deeper than expected.

Well, Bombay gets flooded a couple of times every year... Too much bloody rain. It's not nearly as bad as what you've got though. It can actually be fun. Schools and offices are often closed, so we spend the day drinking!

At least you have electricity!

Jaspel,

Most of Carlisle still have no electricity, and haven't had any for around 3 days. They have water tanks in the streets for the locals.
