Anyone see the comical own goal by the Liverpool defender? Truly one of the greatest own goals ever seen  Big thumbs up

DIdn't see it, what happened?

In the Swiss league last year one player (actually two) scored the greatest own goal. After having stopped the ball at the own goal line (the goalie had already been beaten) this GC Zurich defender tried to clear it but hit a fellow defenders backside from where it went in... They didn't find it quite as funny as everyone else did.

Another story from the swiss league:
Also last season a forward of Servette Geneva celebrated a goal by jumping up on the fences. He got stuck on the top of the fence with a ring on his finger and without realizing it he tore off half his finger. I saw it on TV, the finger was still hanging there but they had to take it off. Ouch...
BTW he played again a couple of weeks after that I believe.

Djimi Traore is a clown but hey, that's football for you. I watched it with my grandad (scouser through and through). Dam he wasn't one bit amused. "He should be sacked!" hahaha

A beauty. Nothing less.  Smile Also enjoyed watching the closeups of him sitting on the bench after he was substituted in the 2nd half. Looked like a kid who'd stolen cookies. Big grin

It was a pitty, perhaps a lack of concentration, but really the ball got tied up in Traore’s feet and he seemed unable to work it out, his momentum was already carrying him in that direction. He is normally an excellent defender. He was substituted later on in the match but only in order to increase the offensive firepower.

Never good to crash out of the FA Cup to a team a few entire leagues below you, but it is a most mixed blessing for the Reds. Their injury situation is horrific and in addition to fighting for fourth place in the Prem., they have also advanced into the semis of the Carling Cup and the last sixteen of the CL. They simply don’t have the staff for all these competitions and while the FA Cup is a great competition, it is simply the most expendable of all these competitions.

Saw it. Rather unfortunate for the player involved but at least he doesn't have to be worried about being killed for an own goal eh?

Ian Dowie, a rugged centre forward, scored a "classic" own goal a few years back (can't remember the fixture, think it involved Crystal Palace?) when he was aiding his defenders at a corner. Across came the corner and up went Dowie, powering a header past his own keeper....having not forgotten his striker's instincts for goals.

Another good one is Frank Sinclair's 30 yard back pass which beat Ian Walker when he was playing for Leicester City against Middlesbrough.

Nah, it wasn't deliberate - the simple fact of the matter is, Traore is rubbish. He tried to do a Johan Cruyff style drag-back and turn in his own box and just lost it completely. Plonker.

One of my housemates is a Burnley fan... it was great being sat in a pub full of Liverpool fans! (Although slightly intimidating at times!)
