Ethics For Web Posting?

Sat Jan 22, 2005 5:46 am

Here's a very interesting article on what ethics we should follow when we post on weblogs. I understand that it is aimed towards those with weblogs, but I think perhaps we should all also consider them when posting on the forum ourselves. Read it over, doesn't take more than five minutes, very interesting.

It's an interesting read, and the ideas all sound sensible, but I'd say that the writer is worrying herself a little too much. Anyone who relies on a blog for accurate information should do so with extreme care. Blogs are not subject to the same level of standards as professional journalism, and almost any one I've seen is much more heavily weighted toward opinion than fact. Now, to the extent that the writer is concerned that some people are being led to believe that blogs are equivalent to "real" journalism, she may have identified a real problem. In my view, however, most reasonably well informed people know the difference.
