University Of Utah...how Is It?

Wed Jan 26, 2005 4:35 am

I got offered alot of money to go to the University of Utah. I was in SLC recently and was amazed at the abundance of hot chicks as well. So, is it really a good school? Im going into medicine, and I hear they have a good program. What are some of the exciting things to do in the area?

nah, that's why I went to UW instead...but the "dorms" at the U of U (olympic housing) are like palaces! It also depends what you want to do. They used to have a decent med school and arch school (but funding is declining steadily, especially now with that f$%k-up Huntsman as governor) comp programming, dance, chemistry, genetics, are all pretty good programs there.

oh... I didn't read your whole post (damn me), yeah their med school used to be top rate, but it's dropped in the last little while because of a massive lack in funding. If you do your pre-med in chemistry though, I think it's pretty good.

as for exciting things to do in the area...it's Utah, so if you're into partying you might be mighty disappointed. There's Skiing, skiing, and did I say Skiing? There's also sports like Utes games that get pretty heated, and the Utah Jazz. That's pretty much it for Utah, plus the occasional concert. btw...it's very difficult to be a U student without a car to get around, not only SLC but the campus itself.

When I was driving truck over the summer, I always seemed to run out of hours in Salt Lake City, so I got to know the area pretty well. The transportation system is good during the day. University TRAX light rail line connects downtown with U of U med center and stops at the city library as well. You can get to Delta Center (Utah Jazz) and Fraklin Covey Field (SLC Sting) on TRAX. Not much of a nightlife. I found a few bars but nothing outstanding. Most people in the central part of Salt Lake City seem to look pretty but the people in the suburbs look like suburbanites. As far as touristy things to do, once you have seen Temple Square and the capital building, you have seen everything.

Depending on what medical field you want to study, I would suggest Stanford, University of Washington or Oregon Health Sciences University/OSU if you can transfer the funds.

As far as med school goes, University of Washington has potentially the best public med school in the country, problem: unless you're from in-state good luck getting into the graduate program, and from what I hear it's like that in a lot of good public school programs.

^^You must have only had about two hours worth of time to kill. If you are willing to make an effort, there is alot of stuff to do.

If you enjoy being outside, there is no better place to be. Salt Lake City is NOT Utah.

If you want have any specific interests feel free to email me. I grew up there and spent about 28 years of my life there.

I love SLC and it's my home. If it's free school, I'd say take it. And although it's SLC, there is still plenty of partying to do. Careful with the mormon girls... They're hot, but you'll also get in big trouble with their fathers!

As far as things to do??? Well we have 5 national parks within 4 hours of SLC and countless state parks and national recreation areas. We have 9 ski resorts within an hour, and 7 of those are within 35 minutes. Las Vegas is within driving distance (less than 5 hours). And you can get all the decent beer and porn an hour and a half away in evanston WY...lol

DL has a hub here so most places you'll need to go will have a non-stop flight. And WN keeps the prices down so you won't be paying out of the nose. And if you need a quick day trip, Park City is 30 min away with lots of fun bars and shopping. The U of U is a good school and as far as Utah standards go it's quite liberal  Smile Good luck with your decision! Follow the link below for a tour of the Salt Lake City area.

 Big thumbs up

Actually, Utah is the less mormon college in Utah, since most of the die-hard mormons go to the Y.

btw...my old high school's in that picture in the upper foreground just below and slightly to the right of the "tall" buildings with the snowboarder and speedskater photos--- it's the big red/brown-brick building a bit to the right of the middle that's largely obscured by trees.

If med school doesn't work out, you could always major in polygamy.
