Travelocity's "Roaming Gnome" Commercials

Wed Jan 26, 2005 2:03 pm

Normally these type of things annoy the living hell out of me (witness McDonald's chicken strips commercials; or the Charmin bears, so thrilled to be taking a sh!t)...

...but I absolutely LOVE the little Roaming Gnome commercials.

Find 'em very entertaining. Perhaps it's because I used to love the old Nickelodeon cartoon about Gnomes when I was little:

ConcordeBoy, I think you are referring to "David the Gnome", I remember that one as well. Anyway, the little gnome fella is great. I like myth #2: Gnomes make horrible tour guides. His response is "Oh honkery, the wheels on the bus go round and round........crash". Good stuff Big grin

The Roaming Gnome commercials are good and usually really funny. The Gnome gets a bunch of good lines in like "Oh Cricky, now there's a risk I wouldn't have taken" and "Ignoring you, Ignoring you!"
"There is no victory at bargain basement prices."

I heard a story about this...I believe someone stole this gnome and traveled with it and took pictures of it where ever they were at that moment...and sent it to the owner as "clues". Did anyone hear that .... or am I just losing it?

Didn't they screw up once and play "O Canada" when promoting travel to the UK?

The stealing the gnome and traveling with it is from the movie Amelie (a great movie by the way). I like the travelocity ads, but I do think they kind of ripped off that idea from there. On ther other hand, maybe it didn't start in Amelie either and the movie and the commercial draw on some older sort of urban legend or practical joke. Anyone sure on this?

95% of Americans wouldn't have even noticed.

The Travelocity commercials are good, but my favorites would have to be the Emerald Nuts commercials that aired alot during the World Series a few months ago.

Go here to view the EN commercials:

Eavesdropping Nebraskans and Encouraging Norwegians are the best ones.  Big thumbs up
