Bush Pays Off Another Journalist

Fri Jan 28, 2005 1:41 pm

A few weeks ago, there were reports that the Bush Administration had payed off conservative columnist Armstrong Williams to write and promote the President's "No Child Left-Behind Act" for over $250,000 dollars of your taxes. Now reports have surfaced that the administration payed off a journalist I believe named Margeret Galager (not sure, forgot the name) to promote the administration's agenda for $21,000. I saw this report on Scarborough Country tonight, and when a couple of Republicans suggested that "everyone does it," it just made me sick. Now as you people know, I am a strong supporter of the president, but this is indefensable, now matter what. Its sad to see our tax dollars being used to pay off journalist. I hope this has stopped.

First of all, "Bush" didn't pay off anyone. Funny how the President is blamed when some life employed civil servant fouls up. Secondly, the journalist discussed by the Washington Compost was paid to write some literature to be used by the government, not to promote anything.

Paying someone to write a brochure, pamphlet, or guide is perfectly legal, unless of course there is a Republican in the White House.

This was done, B757300, to further the agenda of the President, and further his standing; it was done, no doubt, with his knowledge.

You are the ultimate apologist on here, and you can't even admit this is wrong. You're beyond hope.

Are your kneepads worn out from all that ass-kissing? Even when it is largely Republican sources of this information, you have to defend the administration? Seems like they are only one step below God for you.

If report is true, then it's sickening.

You really are heyond hope, B757300. Some civil servant fouling up? Hmm, i want to pay this journalist 21,000 just so my boss can have a good word written about him. Gimme a break. Then you cry bloody murder for a bias against the right. You and the man in the white house should learn how to take R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-I-T-Y for something!!

I was thinking the kneepads were for something more Clintonesque in nature, myself.  Big grin

Someone should really be held responsible for this if it turns out to be true. In an administration already in trouble with credibility issues, this is the last thing they need. A real bone-head move on whoever's idea it was.

I thought of that too...but I thought I'd keep it a little PG for his Conservative eyes.  Big grin

What makes me sick is when the administration paid off the first guy, he was using MY TAX MONEY to do something that I DON'T AGREE WITH. But then again, this administration seems to be full of it...

Ok, you all need to get the facts straight. The Health and Human Services department was the one who actually wrote the 21000 dollar contract and the education department did the 240K deal. These are Bush's programs, but he is not the one finalizing these deals.

An actual source, by the way:

President Bush ordered his Cabinet secretaries Wednesday not to hire columnists to promote administration agendas after disclosure that a second writer had been paid to assist an agency.

HIS cabinet secretaries. As if he knew nothing about this. You got the facts, but need to wake up and smell the cover up.

AND everyone should get past the party politics and Bush bashing and just ask themselves the question: SHOULD THIS BE AN ACCEPTABLE PRACTICE?

Another non-issue being brought up by radical left wingers who can't find legitimate issues to grip about.

Fact is she was hired as a "consultant" and did her job.
