Estonian TV Commercials From The 80s.

I picked this link off of Metafilter.

Given that Estonia was under the control of the Soviet Union and was socialist, they are surprisingly like Western commercials, but what exactly are they advertising and why? They seem consumer goods like Ice Cream, Candy etc., but why? Was there some private industry and competition?

Were these real commercials? I mean some have Beatles soundtracks which I doubt they would have paid for.

This is horrible. Horrible.

ALso from Mefi, Hungarian TV Commercials from the eighties.

There is one Estonian one for perfume where you see naked Estonian breasts! Not bad, especially after taking into account the bad 80s hairstyles and Eastern Bloc fashion sense.

Heh-heh...  Smile

This was one of the attempts to be as modern as possible: Look, we have everything! (It didn't matter that the shops were actually empty and most of those things were not available).

It was also rather unique for the entire Soviet Union. Estonia is very close to Finland and our languages are very similar. Therefore most of the Estonians were following Finnish TV programs (including commercials) and someone got an idea: why not to make some commercials in Estonia sa well??
