Most Miserable Celebs You've Met...

Tue Feb 01, 2005 6:54 am

OK whos the most miserable celeb you've met? Once I met Rhona Cameron, she was a misery guts, I also met Jenny Eclair, she had come out of the theatre and asked me directions, she was slightly drunk but very nice and friendly! I also met the Queen once, she's a misrerable old trout!

Fran Tarkenton.

Rude, egocentric, and just plain wrong.

Actually fired as a client by his travel agent.

Never met any real celebs, grumpy or otherwise. Maybe my life is better for it. I once had Adam-Hart Davies in my wind tunnel doing a tv program about human power. We were measuring the drag of different bikes. And we had Tom Heap (a BBC science correspondent) pretending to be on the Everest Base camp in a tent, again in the wind tunnel because they couldn't rely on the real wind on the day (50th anniversary of 1st ascent)

A friend of my mum's once shared the same lift/elevator as Barry Manilow and when she came over all excited, all he could say was "oh give me a break."

I had a charming little run-in with Mike Eruzione (1980 US Olympic hockey star). I was doing a gig here in Cambridge and loading my doublebass and amplifier into my car at the circle in front of the hotel. Because of the door set-up, I had to leave my bass in the lobby, bring the amp out, then go back and load my bass in. Here I am in a tux shlepping this stuff around as fast as I could. This all took about 2 minutes, and Eruzione pulls into the circle and starts snarling and cussing me out "Get the F outta my way, do you know who I am? sorta crap. I said "Yes I do, and I'm ashamed to have ever looked up to you." Got in my car and left.

Get the F outta my way, do you know who I am?

My responses to this question is the same one that gate agent used to a passenger that she had finally get fed up with.

No sir, don't you know who you are?

Bob Knight...it was 1993, and my dad had a business convention to attend in San Diego, and since I was off from school (I was 8 at the time), my mom and I tagged along...one of the keynote speakers at some breakfast or something at the convention was Bob Knight, and of course, being a sports fan, I knew who he was at that age, so my dad took me to the breakfast, and decided that I should get an autograph from him...I don't quite remember how the scene unfolded, suffice to say that after he signed for me, there was a tug of war between me and him over it over something, can't quite remember what caused the scuffle...and of course, my mom was there videotaping the whole thing, so deep in the family archives there's a tape of me in a tug-of-war with Bob Knight...I've hated him (like most of America has) ever since, and when Texas Tech came in as a ranked team to Boulder last year and we beat them by 10, it was with great pleasure that I joined in the chant of "F*** you Bobby" that we put on...

I haven't meant many celebs so...Rasheed Wallace, NBA player. Wouldn't give an autograph and had a mean aura coming off his. I mean look at him in the NBA: setting the Technical Foul record...

I endured one encounter with an EXTREMELY arrogant and pushy member of a west asian royal family once.

Honestly - you'd think some people might become less full of themselves as they get older - apparently this is not the case.

Paul Lynde! I remember working for QH and the rep from NA's Sun King Club came over and told us that "It was 'our turn' to babysit this a$$hole!" (he had been waiting at the Sun King Club to make his connection to our EYW flight and was obviously being "difficult"). Once we got him in "our care" he proved to be just a big an a$$hole as the NA had said he was.

On the flip side - Best Celeb - Mother Teresa, hands down! Several others have impressed me - Phyllis Diller, Loni Anderson, Jimmy Buffett, Henny Youngman (I've got a great Henny Youngman story but that's for another thread) - but Mother Teresa was just genuinely a beautiful person.
