Problem With Wireless Internet

Wed Feb 02, 2005 5:40 am

I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I have my computer connected by Ethernet to my DSL modem, and it works fine. (I just fire up internet explorer and go)

I also have my modem (Actiontec 54 Mbps wireless DSL gateway) set up for its wireless function. I am able to connect my computer to it and I am getting a very strong signal, but I am not able to surf the web (the computer acts as if it is not getting an internet connection, even though it is).

I have had this problem many times before at hotels, and have never been able to figure it out. I have, however, been able to get it working immediately at a local coffee shop, so I'm really not sure what the problem is.

I am using Windows 98, and have tried:
Releasing and Renewing the IP Address
The "never dial a connection" box is checked in my internet settings
All of the boxes in the LAN settings are unchecked.

I'd appreciate it if someone with expertise in this area could assist me.

Thanks!

Have you set your internet connection to be shared? go into network connections and check the properties of the ethernet connection.

I would suggest posting at http://www.dslreports.com/forum/wireless
