Ibiza - Anyone Been There?

Wed Feb 02, 2005 11:46 am

I quite fancy going to Ibiza this year in the summer. So, I was just wondering if anyone else has been there? If so, what was it like? Where is the best place to stay? When/if I go, I won't wanna stay in San Antonio as it is too lively, but I don't wanna stay in a quiet location either.
Also, does anyone know if the airport has jet bridges or stair trucks?

Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.  Smile

Playa D'en Bossa would be good for you, it's quite lively but has the element of relaxing as well, and is only 10 minutes from IBZ. O havent been to the airport, I popped across by ferry from ALC one day.

San Antonio is definitely not a place I would recommend staying in, nice to visit but not to stay. Its to rowdy, full of drunken chavs and IMO quite dangerous at night. You get pestered a lot by bar touts and moroccans with dodgy watches and its all very noisy. Beware of Ibiza deals, most that seem to be cheap tend to be 18-30's and you will end up in some dives. 18-30's are a bad idea cos you not only have to put up with getting pestered by morrocans and bar touts you also have to put up with the reps knocking on your door trying to flog you booze cruises, and they are VERY pushy! San Antonio is a horrendous dump!

Every where else is reasonably OK, you have to be sure what you want out of a holiday in Ibiza as its best to let this dictate where u want to stay. Playa D'en Bossa is good, though lots of families, still its quite near Ibiza town for some night life. Figuretas is just a bit close too town and is a lot quieter and not as many families, though this tends to be the gay area.

Portinax in the north is quite nice but a bit too far from anything.

I prefer Cala Tarida as its quiet but has regular buses too San antonio and Ibiza Town.

Resorts like calla longa are just places where you go and stay there for your holiday and not move about. If you want to see quite a bit of the island then try and stay near (but not in) Ibiza town.

Hope this has been of some help

I was there last summer and really enjoyed it, Ibiza has something for everyone. If you want to go somewhere relaxed stay in Santa Eularia, it's really beautiful. However if you want to go clubbing then San Antonio is the place to be because it's near the clubs (Eden and Es Paradis). It's loud and yes there are some chavs running about but if you're into partying then stay there. It's also where most Brits stay.

If you want something a little more low key try staying near Playa D'en Bossa. It's a nice beach and best of all there is Bora Bora there where they play music outdoors during the day. Space is nearby and Pacha and El Divino are located in Ibiza town. There is the fortress which surrounds the old town and is worth seeing.

As for things to do. Well the whole point of Ibiza is to go clubbing. Most clubs open in June and stay open until September. Eden has Garlands which is a good night to go. Es Paradis can get a bit chavy but they have the water parties which are fun. Amnesia and Privelege are located along the route in between San An and Ibiza Town, they have a disco bus which runs all night so you can take that. Amnesia holds foam parties which are lots of fun and worth going to. Privelege is the one club you must go to if you plan on clubbing (it's the world's largest club), go to Manumission which is the best night. Then you have Pacha which is pretty good a bit posh and El Divino which seems to be very posh so dress to impress. Finally Space opens at 8 in the morning after people get out of the other clubs, so it's a real afterhours club, Sundays being the best day to go there.

Things to do in Ibiza- take a cruise to Formentera, watch the sunset at Cafe del Mar, dance at Bora Bora, see the hippie market.

As for hotels, I recommend Es Vive near Playa d'en Bossa.

As for the airport it's not that great, no jet bridges from what I saw, we used stairs.

I've been to Ibiza twice, the first time 5 years ago and then again a year later.

Obviously I have no idea how its changed but I stayed between San Antonio and the San Antonio Bay area, and got the best of both worlds.

The African guys did get a bit pushy trying to flog there stuff, but if you ignored them you never had a problem.

Back then the bars werent full of chavs, they all went to magaluf back then lol

To be honest I thought that San Antonio was the best place on the planet! Cheap drinks all night, great music, and very lively!

I was only 16 on my first visit with my parents, but they didnt mind me galevanting off all hours. If you know how to look after yourself out on the town in the UK you'll be fine in Ibiza. Just keep clear of any main roads while pissed :P

Of course this is all based on 4 year old intelligence so dunno what its like now! But looking at your profile, your 16-20 the perfect age for Ibiza  Smile I dont know how lively u are but San An Bay is nice, and puts distance between you and the town so u dont hear it, but can easily just walk over to it.

Sadly, yes!

Got a very cheap teletext package at the end of the season in 2002, room allocated on arrival. Big mistake, ended up in San Antonio. Got off the transfer coach and on the first bus back to Ibiza Town, from where we got a ferry to Formentera. Found a hotel in Es Pujols, right on the beach, for £15 a night. Had a wonderful week there.

San Antonio is a bit like Blackpool but without the good bits (i.e. the Pleasure Beach, Tower, Piers etc). However, just before we got the transfer coach back to the airport we did find one of the best restaurants (the Rias Baixas) we've eaten in in all of Spain tucked away right in the back of town.

Ahhh... Ibiza! Party Island number One during the summer season... Very expensive and busy then also.

I have some very nice memories on the island... Heading from disco to disco with the crew of DJ Armin van Buuren in the summer of 2003. Very nice indeed. Very good DJ and very nice guy too.

San Antonio isn't the place you want to be during the summer, unless you're under 30 years old and enjoy busy places.

The island is packed with pretty girls (and boys if you want).
