Not a new idea, really, but a marketing scheme that is more rare in auto sales than other consumer products. Several dealerships here in Middle TN
embarked on the same idea a year or so ago, but I don't know how successful the campaign was. The following "round" figures are for illustration only, and "profit" may be higher or lower, but it will give you an idea:
list price: 41,000 Dealer Cost: 30,500
Shitbox price: 10,000 Dealer Cost: 8,500
You pay for both: $41,000. Dealer Profit: $2,000, Plus kickbacks, incentives, brooming two units off the floorplan inventory finance charges. Like I said, these may not be the actual figures, but rest assured that the dealer has enough juice to make the transaction profitable to him.
In the 1960s a Ford dealer in the LA
area did a similar thing fairly successfully, only the second "freebie" was a used car, not a new product. Buyer beware... any "deal" that's too good to be true usually is. Regards...Jack
