I think it's some financial firm or a bank. Funny how they've been having the FBR Open for years, but I didn't know who the sponsor was until today.  Laugh out loud

It used to be the Scottsdale Open if my memory serves me correctly. I have not attended before but I know plenty of people that did, and they enjoyed the experience very much.

FBR = " Friedman Billings Ramsey " some financial investing thing.
Actually it used to be called the Phoenix Open, the loudest tournament of the year (especially #16) and i would give my left nut to attend one of those or any PGA tour event for that matter.

Coz....

If you get a chance - GO!!

I have to miss it this year (I've been to the last 4), and it is a blast. Whether you want to watch some great golf or just enjoy the party atmosphere (or both) there is nothing that can match Phoenix.

As Yegmaster said - last year The Thunderbirds (the civic organization that runs the tournament) brought on FBR as a sponsor because they needed the extra money to lure the top players. These PGA boys hate playing for a first place check of less that $750K. Poor things.

If you go - - dress comfortably and allow for weather changes. And be sure to leave the cell phone and camera in the car!! Not allowed on the grounds by PGA Tour rules (and yes, you will see people that sneak them in).

Recommendations: To watch golf, you can either pick a favorite player and follow them around - - or get there early and select a spot alongside one of the tee boxes or greens and enjoy the parade of players as they move by.

I always tried to do a little of both. There's plenty of food and beverages all around the course. And again as Yeg pointed out, you just must experience the 16th hole!! It's a par 3 that is without a doubt the biggest party on the course. LOUD!!

Enjoy it if you can make it - - sorry I won't be there!! Hope some of this helps.  Big thumbs up

Regards,

Mike

Agree completely with the above comments.
An absolute blast!
Great people watching too, with the plastic Scottsdale trophy wives trying to navigate grass in high heels, the rowdies at the 16th...
A great day when the weather cooperates!
