Freeway Noise Near Your Home

Mon Feb 07, 2005 9:51 pm

It drives me crazy! I live more than a mile from I275 in western Wayne County Michigan and I can hear the freeway. It is really bad in the winter mornings. My brother lives about a mile north of I696 and it is also bad.

I find that it get's better after the morning rush, and it is somewhat better in the spring, summer and fall when the trees have leaves on them.

About 5 years ago 275 was rebuilt, and the used a graded concrete, and it became lounder.

Anyone else go nuts over this?

Bring 707cmf over, he snores so hard you'll barely hear the traffic any more.

Well, the fact that there is no traffic at all helps a lot.

LY7E7:

No, that would be a bonus! We do see a lot of action from DTW around here, but they are already at altitude by us!

I live about 600 meters as the crow flies away from an Autobahn. During clear mornings especially in winter with winds from the East it can be really annoying. Thank Goodness I live in the northern West wind zone Big grin

Pft, from my apartment I have the busiest highway in Denmark 500 metres to the south, one of the busiest sectors of rail road tracks 500 metres to the east & approach to RKE (very busy in therms of VFR & flight schools) 500 metres overhead. And I can't hear any of that noise  Laugh out loud

(but then again, I can hardly hear anything anyway  Insane)

Well, where I live there is a Draw-Bridge with another I-5 bridge passing over, so I get the I-5 traffic noise, Eastlake traffic noise (plus the sound of the drawbridge going up and that annoying whistle it makes). Then I live directly under the approach into SEA and LKE which is nice except when I'm trying to sleep. There's also a nearby fire station and UW Police are siren-happy. Not the quietest place I've got.

if I look out my window I can see the Barton Highway although don't hear it much since it is a fair distance away and not the most heavily used road in the area.

The M5 runs North-south about a kilometre East of my house. On a cold crisp morning I can usually hear it but other than that it's pretty quiet. The stretch in general doesn't have much traffic usually as those commuting generally use the A38 as it's quicker and closer. It rarely bothers me, the only real road noise I ever hear is the milkman in his Ford Transit at about 3am and the occasional boy racer tearing down the ring road.

As for me, the M6 is about a kilometer west of my house. Late at night I sometimes go sit on the bench on the bridge over it. Quite relaxing really!

Why did I take a photo of it!?

I find it disturbing yet not suprising that UTA knows the sleeping habits of 707cmf. HEY NOW!

When at that fool's place (707cmf) I sleep the furthest away possible and I lock the door. Last year I heard some loud rumbling noises and I thought "ha, the first winter charters are in", but no, it was that cretin snoring away.
Noise could be heard through 2 closed doors and a large living-room.
People coming to the FRA meet, bring earplugs.
