Is It Just Me, Or? And Other Airliners.net Lingo.

Fri Feb 11, 2005 12:37 am

Ever notice how many people start thread by asking, "Is it just me or...."? Usually the question continues something like, "are lines rediculously long?" or, "is security too rigid?"

(No, I have I not seen either of these questions posed. It is about the way the question is asked).

Think about it, if someone asks, "Is it just me, or are lines too long?" what are we supposed to say? It doesn't make sense to say, "It's just you!"

What you are trying to ask is, "Do other people agree that lines are too long?" Even then, the question is kind of silly. OF course lines are long! So perhaps the poster is trying to simpy say. "I have noticed that line are long. Have you all noticed it too?"

But perhaps I am wrong. Or maybe it's just me!

 Smile

Mind you, this is just one phrase of many that we are all hooked on.

What are some of the other "catch phrases" that we tend to use (that have become part of the airliners.net lingo)?

Is it me or shouldn't the title of this thread read:

Is It Just Me, Or..? And Other Airliners.net Lingo.  Smile

One I'm tired of seeing: "Time will tell."

It's a redundant phrase and should be retired from the forum.  Big grin

Is it just me, or are people getting really worked up over the littlest things?

I would hope that people will get outside a bit more, but I suppose that time will tell....

"self gloss"

I used that on a message board for one of my classes and had to make a further 3 posts explaining what I meant. No, I did not tell them where I got it from. Like people who I have to work with need to know I hang out with Elbonian fruitcakes that have cats and sheep confused.

In all fairness capt. - Self-Gloss is a term I imported from The Jim Rome Show to here, so you shouldn't be seen as that much of a douche bag for using it.

Another Rome classic, Signed By posts. I tried that on another forum and half the people either didn't get it or thought it was the person being spoofed who actually said it. The jokes no fun when you have to explain it afterward.

That said, I seem to have missed the memo on the meaning of the term "Rhaa". What exactly does that mean? Where did it come from?

I have no idea what it means? I know it comes from Elbonia.. Maybe them worshipping the sun god?

This one really annoys me:

"Im very sorry if this has been posted before......"

or when someone puts any text language in there posts, or uses "LOL" when posting.
