What Do You Do To Unwind After Work?

Wed Feb 23, 2005 7:52 am

The job is starting to get stressing. I multi-task like a mofo, but it seems as though when I come home, I can't shut my working mind off. I've also been exercising a lot, but sometimes to no avail. Any recommendations on what to do? I find that playing the piano as a form of meditation is really good for me...but I need some way to get my mind off the corporate world and into a relaxed state. No, I don't need a drink after work...

1. Come and do the Live Chat here at A.net
2. Play a free Internet game
3. Read a book
4. Get a new piece of music to work up on the piano, something you can do for fun and for sight-reading (at least the first time...)

I'm glad you don't drink!  Big thumbs up

Company of my family (always the priority), a glass of wine over dinner, and later on when it's late maybe shoot a few things on a PC game  Smile

I've been pretty luckly so far, in that I've always been able to "leave it" at work. Of course that means it all comes flooding back when I arrive at work.  Sad
By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Well when i get home i get on the 'net' and listen to the tunes i have on my comp...i find it's a great way of relaxing and trying to forget about the day at work. Only when everything is quiet and i'm trying to get to sleep does my mind keep going....i swear i'm braindead when i'm at work, but as soon as the lights go off my mind wants to run a marathon!

Cheers

After school I'll sometimes surf the net and listen to music (usually Andrew WK) or have some friends round or go to their house...

Hi Phil,

What Do You Do To Unwind After Work?

You are asking me me.. After work I smoke a joint (420), talk to myself, take shower, go out to eat, and have little fun. That simple AND I go bed early.

Enjoy a leisurely drive home with NO TRAFFIC! Imagine that in a city of 800,000. Course it helps that the workday is 3:30 PM to 12:00 AM MST. Once home it's eat dinner, play with kitty, check e-mail/mail and whatever else comes to mind before bedtime (anywhere from 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM usually).

Hippie Lettuce smoking burnouts. Perfect. What more do you need than to see "smoke a joint, talk to myself". Well done. You make drunks look like less of a loser than they really are.....

Now that I'm done cracking on people, I go to the gym for about an hour and a half or so. Go home, take care of my animals, relax, have dinner with the girlfriend etc.

I switch off my mind completely by watching mindless dribble on TV ie: US Sitcoms like Home Improvement/Friends etc or I come online and just have a browse.

My work can be less stressing than HOME, sometimes. I will either pop on "The Simpson's" or, if it's my day to water my yard, I'll put on the sprinklers and sit and while they run, I'll get a chair and read a magazine.

My job requires me to listen to TALKING all day long, so I need some time of "peace" to decompress.

And then my daughters will start up on each other..."Stupidhead!" "Fatso!!!" "DADDY!" "Did NOT!" "Did SO!" "DAAAAAAD!"
If you don't stand for SOMETHING, you'll fall for ANYTHING.

I work Midnight-8:00 AM and I am usually dead tired when I get home so I go straight to bed. When I used to work normal hours I would take a shower when I got home, then hit some balls at the driving range.

Go to this absolutely serene bar in a lagoon/sheltered cove area. The bar is pratically on the water. Think of it as a bar on a jetty/dock... In fact it is called D'Dodgy Dock bar, because it got a bit banged up in the hurricane.

You should see the sunset from this place, totally out of this world.

The best part of it? It is pretty much at the north east tip of the active RNWY direction. There is a small hill at the end of the runway, so you dont see the aircraft as it goes down the runway. However you would be there sipping on some wine, and out of the blue a beautiful BA777 shoots up from behind the hill, howling, and eveyone at the bar especially British tourists are clapping and cheering it on.. Quite fun  Smile
There is something special about planes....
