Apple Users In Hong Kong

Sat Feb 26, 2005 10:26 pm

I'm planning to buy a Mac mini, however looking at the website for Apple Hong Kong it appears that they are much cheaper there than here in Belgium. And since I'm going to Hong Kong in April...
Did any of you ever bought an Apple in HK? I would like to know if the system software and the other software that's included is in English. Also, any recommandations where I should buy it?
Thanks.

The main difference usually is in the VAT you´re paying at home in Europe.

Some people are always bitching about the "outrageous" german Mac prices when in fact they´re generally quite close once you convert to € and add the VAT to the american price (without sales tax). I´d guess it´s the same with Hong Kong...

Potential problems:

• You may have to explain why you shouldn´t need to pay the import VAT on entry to Belgium at the airport. Fines will apply if you´re caught smuggling.

• I´m not certain if warranty will just carry over. And you´ll probably have a much shorter warranty period on top of that (that´s one of the reasons for the higher price over here).

Interesting points Klaus. Thanks.
Can anyone confirm that the prices for computers are ussually advertised without VAT in Hong Kong?

There is no VAT/sales tax in Hong Kong. The price you see is the price you pay. If importing it into your own home country involves some kind of import tax/duty, you'll have to figure out yourself what is the final cost to you.
