Stargate?

Sun Feb 27, 2005 3:02 pm

Hey folks,
In light of the Sci-Fi TV talk about ST and BG, I am curious what people think of Stargate. I haven't really seen any of the later seasons. I thought some episodes were quite good and the basic story arcs were pretty good. However it did seem to get a little too repetitive.....Team goes off world...gets trapped..finds a way home.
Thoughts?
Cheers

Yeah, that does sound like some of the story lines. But they've developed some interesting stories, involving character development in some of the species such as the Asgard, the Tok'ra and even the Replicators. They've also developed some of the main cast pretty well, such as with Major Carter and Teal'c. They've developed the overall story line rather slowly, though. I'd like to find out more about the ancients. And killing Dr. Frasier and the inhabitants of Abydos wasn't all that cool, but one cannot expect everyone to safely make it through to the end.

Dr. Jackson's character could add some more flavor, and maybe a bit more masculinity, though, he's cool, and still my favorite character.

ack O'Neill, though - I love his sarcasm and he makes for a good commander, but I think they sometimes overdo it with his sarcasm. Dr. Jackson and Col. Carter are the best creative thinkers, but I think they should give Jack's character some cred on this, too. Richard Dean Anderson is just a cool actor, and I'd like to see them give his O'Neill character a little more credit in matters of creativity. It just seems like he snivels and quips a little too much when trying to work through various situations w/Carter and Daniel. Teal'c does OK in this category, and they've developed him pretty well.

Man, what a great topic. Outside of sports, Stargate is about the only thing I love on TV.

Sorry - that 3rd paragraph - that's a "J" for Jack to start there.

I had the entire 1st season on my PC for a while, but it ended up just taking up space as I only watched like two episodes of it.

It looked interesting enough, and if I had less things to keep me occupied, I'd love to watch the whole thing...  Smile

It is my favorite scifi show, i never had a favorite before and i do plan at some point to purchase the series DVD's. Unfortunately I cannot see it as i dont own a TV.

Yes StarTrek had been 'proven' for nearly 30+ years with it's own subculture, whoop dee freaking doo... Yeah sure

I think Stargate is much better, seems more realistic, aside from the cliche of english speaking aliens.  Big thumbs up

I used to watch all the early episodes basically because there was nothing else on TV, I really got into it and followed the series a lot but I have not watched hardly any of the new series or the past 3 to be frank. But still its a pretty cool show, a lot of imagination and yes it has comedy  Big grin

The first few seasons of Stargate SG1 were fantastic. The show is definitely not what it once was, but I still watch it as there can be a few pleasant surprises. Episode 3 in Season 7 was a hoot with the opening premise that Jack O'Neill had overnight become a teenager. The actor who portrayed the young Jack had the Ricky Dean mannerisms down pat.

I've watched all the Stargate Atlantis episodes and while it's been interesting and there have been a few good episodes, sometimes others seem just like prolonged agony.

They just killed off my favourite character.

As the UK is about a week in front of the USA or so at the moment I'm not going to say who it is in case it hasn't aired yet.....
