USA Talk Show Radios

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:06 pm

What are the best talk show radios?
I like Tom Leykis...quite stupid and arrogant but makes me laugh a lot.
What are your favorites?

The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio from 1-4 ET. I have it playing in the background while I'm at work and hear it when I go to lunch as well. Great show, as he acts differently than he does on SportsCenter. He's hilarious.

I love Phil Hendrie for comedy, IMUS while driving in the mornings, and Neal Boortz in the afternoon.

All other times I listen to the BBC.

If you have Satellite Radio Sports By-Line is pretty good but my mom enjoys Dr. Laura so I am going to have to agree with her on that one.

I am going to have to say two:

As a conservative: Glenn Beck

As a toledoan: Denny Schaffer(filled in for Glenn Beck numerous times)

Both on 1370 WSPD.

For sports talk shows, I'll take the Jim Rome show. Except when Andrew Sicilliano is guest-hosting.
For news talk shows, I usually prefer the local WWL-AM radio talk shows.

I watch "Imus In The Morning" on MSNBC for a few minutes when I get up in the morning, but can't get it in my car. I also hear short pieces of "Bob & Sheri" & "Matt & Ramona" throughout the day.

The only radio show I listen to regularly is "The Pam Stone Show". I don't think it's too well known, considering it's only in three other markets (excluding CLT & my town's station) so far- they picked up a town in Virginia a few weeks ago, so I guess they're expanding. It's based out of Charlotte's 107.9 The Link, also where "Bob & Sheri" are based. Pam played Judy on the show "Coach" in the early 90s & has done some stand-up comedy & guest apperances on shows since. She's hilarious....it's hysterical most of the time! Do any CLT area users on here listen to her?

I used to listen to Imus from time to time back when 790 The Zone here in Atlanta used to have him as their morning show. One of The Zone's guys would actually call in to Imus from time to time. Then came the decision that their drivetime show would be moving to the mornings and Imus was going to be dropped (Cheers went up in Atlanta then). Imus got really pissed off about and started talking crap about the station on air and the managers @ 790 pulled the show off the air right after that.

When I do listen to talk radio, it's usually sports talk. Mayhem In The AM on 790 The Zone is pretty good, a cross between Sportscenter and The Man Show.

Phil Hendrie over Tom Leykis (Comb Over Boy) any day. C'mon Los Angeles get him back on KFI, stop interrupting him for the Laker games on KLAC.

Not having had TV for a 1 1/2 years in my old place, I'd compare cities as to who had the best group of stations. Being from Chicago, I'm biased, but S.F. is good for radio (KSFO is pretty cool), N.Y. is, too. I'm near D.C. now, and it's not nearly as good out here. L.A. was OK and I'd like to hear some more out of Boston.

As far as shows, Roe and Garry was awesome in Chicago until Garry left. Basically, most stuff they put on 670 The Score is pretty good (but Zampillo from Me and Z left, so that stinks). WMVP is 2nd in Chicago to The Score, no doubt. Best in Chicago now, though, is Boers and Bernstein.

My list (as long as I am in the right areas) from morning until...
1. Curtis Sliwa 770 WABC in NYC; 2. The Bigshow; 3.
Glenn Beck - XM
Laura Ingraham - XM
Roe and Gary (if they were still around - don't get up to Chicago much anymore) Hannity sometimes
Michael Savage, or that Hendrie nut.
XM comedy after all that.

Life gets pretty boring out on the road...

I work for a news/talk station not in MSP though somewhere else.
Mornings: I don't usually listen then maybe IMUS.
Mid-Mornings: Rick and Scott or Glenn Beck
Mid-Afternoon: Thom Hartmann, Jim Rome, or Jeff Wagner(online)
Afternoons: Dave Ramsey, Sean Hannity, Roe Conn (Online), The Greenhouse(online)
Evenings:Micheal Savage, Lars Larsen
Late Nights: Alan Colmes, Phil Hendrie, or John Bachlelor
These are some of my favorite shows. Good Listening.

The only talk radio I listen to is WMVP (ESPN 1000). They've acutally overtaken The Score in the ratings during most of the daytime slots. I can't really get into The Score, I think Mike North is a jag and I have little tolerance for the other commentators who can't seem to properly pronounce the word "the" (instead saying "da"). I'll take Mac, Jurko and Harry on WMVP any day.

Ditto to Allstarflyer's post about 670 the score here in Chicago. My radio is pretty much locked on them all day long whether it's in the car or in the background while I'm doing homework or other stuff. I like all of their shows, although I agree Boers and Bernstein are my definite favorite (any other who you crappin fans??). I'm currently listening to Mike Murphy's show and it's always entertaining as well.
Occasionally I'll switch to WMVP 1000 (the local ESPN radio affiliate) to catch Mac, Jurko and Harry's afternoon show but other than that I don't care much for their nationalized programming.

My work day revolves around talk radio. Mornings from 6am till anywhere between 10am and 11am I listen to Howard Stern. When he breaks out and goes to Sirius, I will go and buy that too. At Noon, I switch over to The Jim Rome Show. Sorry Troyvis, but he blows Dan Patrick and any other sports show out of the water. That goes till 3pm when I go home.

Dan Patrick is too stale these days. That, and the fact he takes every other week off. That, and the fact that the Nasty Boy made that show whatever it it used to be.

I've listened to Rome since '96, and he runs circles around DP.

Out!!!

Every morning driving home from ORD I listen to Mancows Morning Madhouse. I get a laugh out of it every morning, plus I am a fan because he broadcasts from Chicago.

Mornings: Glenn Beck (soon I'm going to have to change my station to get him anymore...)

Afternoons: Mike Trivisonno & Kim Mihalik on WTAM 1100

Glenn of course is conservative; Mike is rather liberal. I shout at both of them at least 3 times each show.
