Anyone Like Juanes / Other Latin Singers?

Sun Mar 06, 2005 2:07 am

Ok, so I went to Buenos Aires in January. And I am basically fluent in spanish. So lucky for me I can listen to spanish music and understand the lyrics. Anyone like Juanes? He is one of my favorites, I went to his Concert here in washington, and it was AMAZING. He sounded awesome, and the crowd was really awesome, very into it. Very cool. My favorite songs are...

-Fijate Bien
-Luna
-Mala Gente
-Es Por Ti
-La Paga
-No Siento Penas
-Damelo

I also have guilty pleasure singers that i love. Ie, Paulina Rubio and Thalia...

SO, who are your favorite latin singers? (Espana incluido)  Wink . And tell me the songs too, so I can sample them! Thanks!

If you like those Juanes songs, you would also like " A dios le pido"

I also suggest:
Cristian Castro--Azul
Cristian Castro--Lloviendo Estrellas
Chayanne--Torero
Chayanne--Lo Dejaria Todo
Jon Secada--Otra Dia Mas Sin Verte
Shakira--Estoy Aqui
Shakira--Te Dejo Madrid
Paulina Rubio--Todo Mi Amor
Paulina Rubio--Yo Sigo Aqui
David Bisbal--Ave Maria
David Bisbal--Corazon Latino

If you can't find any of the above, e-mail me and I could make you a CD and walk to Ivory to drop it off.

When I went to Costa Rica in 2002, apparently this song had just come out as a single or something, because every other song on the Costa Rican radio stations was "A dios le pido", it became very addictive for some reason, and since we did a lot of driving all over Costa Rica, we listened to the radio a lot...I'll never forget that song...

A dios le pido is an awesome song. Loved it when he sang it at the concert, and there was a very drunk columbian man who was drunk on agua caliente who grabbed me around the shoulder and started singing with me... lol it was very funny indeed...

I love Mana or Maña - I don't even know how it's properly spelled. A portugese friend of mine played their "MTV unplugged" loads of times during the first phase of our education, which was then in Luxemburg. So whenever I hear one of those songs lots of memories come back. And now that I started learning spanish, I start understanding some bits and pieces.

Cheers

You went to the creative center of then non-english rock music world, the dance/chill-out, and electrotango capital of Latin America, the city that invented Tango itself, the country of birth for modern folkloric music and nueva cancion, the place were classical music is alive and well... And you mean you went to Buenos Aires and only listened to Juanes???

They are not even Argentine, they are a Colombian 'rock' band (really they are latin pop). But they are not bad.

Dude, you need a lesson or two in modern popular music!

I also am pretty good with my Spanish, so I enjoy some latin music, specifically David Bisbal, Aventura (Obsesion), and Juanes. Another good song is "Color Esperanza" although it reminds me of the lion king disney movie. It has nothing to do with that, it just does for some reason.

Are you talking about Manu Chau? One of their songs is "Me Gusta Tu" which has a bit of French in the chorus.

Derico--

.... bueno, quiero saber mas...dime los que a ti te gusta mas.

I like juanes alot, but I didnt get much of a chance to listen to other things. I was only in Buenos Aires for a couple of weeks, so it wasnt like I was able to know that much more! I do love tango music, and I bought a CD here in the US that is all Tango based songs that are remixed, into lounge-chill-out music... one of them is called "Naranjo en Flor"... and there is another called Perfume. The CD is called "Frequent Flyer" Buenos Aires.... dont know if you know any of these people:

-Campo Featuring Veronica Loze -Naranjo en Flor
-Luciano Supervielle w/ Adriana Varela

http://www.kinkysweet.com/kinkysweet.html

Thats the website, click on frequent flyer on the left, and then you will be on the track-listings page, where you can listen to samples of all songs, including bits of the two that I listed above. Enjoy

PDXtriple7 -

No, I'm not talking about Manu Chao. I like that one aswell, though. The one I'm talking about is either Mana or Maña, I know (quite) for sure. They were invited to play a MTV unplugged so they must be famous somewhere.

It's Mana. They are from Colombia and yes, their MTV Unplugged was pretty good. Some of the songs they performed there were 'Rayando el Sol' 'Se Me Olvido Otra Vez' and others. The unplugged really helped boost their popularity.

Mana is from Mexico. I only like La Oreja de Van Gogh.

Those tango mix CD are great!

I brought them recently in Buenos Aires:

"Bajo Fondo Tango Club" (2003)

"Supervielle" (2004)

The version of "Perfume" with Adriana Varela is fantastic and so "Naranjo en Flor". Adriana Varela is perhaps the most famous tango singer in Argentina.

Thanks for the recommendation "Frequent Flyer"

There is a new remix version from Gotan Project also that is very good.

Hi, Lima, nice to see you!

My favorite spanish language acts are:

Andrés Calamaro (Argentina)
Joaquín Sabina (Spain)
Andrés Calamaro
Los Secretos (Spain)
Andrés Calamaro
Quique González (Spain)
Andrés Calamaro
Fito Paez (Argentina)
Did I mention Calamaro? Big grin

I only like a couple of Maná songs, although I don't like the rest of
their work.

I think Juanes is good although he's not my favorite.

I really, really hate all that "latin pop" stuff: Thalia, Chayanne,
Paulina Rubio, David Bisbal, etc.
