Brief MAN Meet

Mon Mar 07, 2005 6:51 am

Hey,

At last I will visit MAN! I decided on a trip the end of this month as I can't hold off going anymore. I will be travelling with my mate Chris, who's also into aviation. Our flight details are as follows:

25 March 2005
LHR-MAN
Boeing 757-200
Arrive: 1255

MAN-LGW
Boeing 737-400
Depart: 1635

As you can see, it is only a brief visit, but a good couple of hours, possibly 3. Wondering if anyone out there fancies meeting us for the afternoon. Daniel Smalley has already agreed, be nice to see some of ya,

Cheers

How dare u have a MAN meet without me!! If i wasn't 3500 miles away i'd be there without a doubt!! I used to live 4 miles away, but that was nearly 3 years ago. Hope you have a great time spotting and i hope the weather holds out for ya. I'm hoping to make it back to MAN in november.

Cheers

Ahhh, a few days later and I would have joined in.

What traffic can be expected in the month of April, besides the usual British charters of course?

ive not been there in a while, but you have lufthansa, CSA, hapag lloyd ( i hope i got that right),AF, SK, SQ with 777 or 744, LOT (EMB), US, AA, CO, DL, AZ, IB, CX, EK, Qatar, more spanish than you can shake a stick at on the weekends, umm, umm........that's all i can go off by memory but i know other manchester spotters more up to date will fill in everything i've left out.

Cheers

ps, not sure if it's hapag lloyd or germania...sorry

Skysurfer, thanks! I've been looking at pictures to get an idea of what I might see there, and it is quite a variety! I was especially hoping to see some Russian aircraft, plus L1011's or DC-10's, but it seems that I may be out of luck. I'll have to pay a visit to LHR for part of a day of spotting too.

Captaingomes, the L1011's used to come in in the shape of air transat, and i believe YES (of portugal) also paid a few appearances. DC-10's used to be in often operated by Monarch and MyTravel but they've been disposed of now, altho if memory serves me correct the Monarch DC-10 cockpit is coming to the aviation park at MAN (someone correct me on anything if i'm wrong). Cubana used to come in many moons ago with Il-62's (?) but changed after a while to AOM DC-10's, now they no longer operate on the route at all. The business park (exec) is usually pretty busy with some interesting visitors and luckily MAN is very spotter friendly......airports of the world take note!
Word of caution though......don't park on level 13 of T1's parking lot as it costs an arm and a leg....go the the aviation viewing park as you pay once to get in and can stay as long as you want with no extra charge.

Let me know how the trip goes

Cheers

Hi Stu, thanks for that info! I'll be there for much of April, so I have plenty of time to explore things. I'm still looking forward to the variety that MAN seems to attract!

Hey,

Yea, cheers for the info. The concorde is indeed in the viewing park, as is the DC-10 nose, which is MON's new colours. I look forward to MAN, should be a great afternoon Smile

If its on the 25th which is friday , then I can't make it as its Bank Holiday. (Work! ) I'm free on the 26th and 27th. MAN is only a 2 hour drive for me from here in Nottingham. It should be busy up there that weekend.
I met up with Trekster, MYT332, and ndebelebev (BEV) on 27th Feb on a very cold Winters morning. Got some good pics. Just gotta find the time to upload them. Eurotrans 3111 was there as well. MAN is great for spotting. No wonder its rated as No1 in the UK.  thumbsup
If any one has more details about this meeting for sure and the date confirmed , I may be able to swap a day off.

Sam, if you're arrving at 12:55, supposing your on time, once you get back onto landside, it will be about 13:15-13:30, once you get to the Viewing park it'll be 13:30-13:45. Then if you want to ensure you get a window seat on the return then you'll have to head back for 14:35-15:00 (you'd have to be back by about 15:15 anyway) and from the viewing park you'd have to give about an extra 10-15mins from there to the check in desk.

Is it really worth it for a 20-30min meet up? I say thats a waste of £65 as it is.

All British Airways customers, no longer just Exec Card holders, can now check-in online 24 hours before the flight on ba.com so arriving at the terminal 2 hours early is not necessary to secure a window seat. If you've already checked in and have no hold baggage then arriving at the terminal 45 minutes before departure is fine. The self service check-in machine/customer service agent at LHR in the morning will be able to print the boarding pass for both Sam's outbound and return flights so there won't be any issues at MAN. It could be easier to meet at The Airport Pub which has very good views but is only 5 minutes walk from Terminal 3?

Anyway back to the point...

I am delighted to confirm that myself and MYT332 will be participating in this hugely successful meeting. I shall be arriving on the BA1392 on 25MAR (scheduled arrival 1255) and returning to LGW on the BA2909 on 26MAR.

I might come. Not totally sure yet. It's a shame it wasn't on the 24th as my girlfriend is flying from MAN that day, so I could have coincided it all together. Still, doesn't matter. Perhaps I could get the bloke from this uni and city to come too.

Simple solution to that - when you go in to work the day before, make sure your gaffer hears you saying how rough you feel today and that you think you're coming down with a bug. Then when tomorrow comes you don't feel (too) guilty about phoning in sick..  bigthumbsup   Wink

That's true, but he can't prove it either way  Wink. If you put on a good enough show of being ill the day before, you might just get away with it. Of course don't forget to mention that you've already cancelled your flight because of the uncertainty whether you could get the day off or not.. You know.. jazz it up and use some imagination  Wink

I know if I were at risk of losing £££ by not being able to fly, I'd certainly give it a whirl..

Yep, forgot about that, but that would still only be a couple of hours.

I might be able to come (well not really much chance) as i am supposed to be going to Birmingham Airport on the train, but i guess Manchester shouldn't be too hard, just get on a different train at Euston, i haven't got the tickets yet. Whats the easiest way to get from Manchester Picadilly to the Airport?

Whats the easiest way to get from Manchester Picadilly to the Airport

The train. It costs £2.70 Rtn I think and services are very regular.

Where's the station, actually in the airport? I won't be able to go, in fact, but just for future reference?

Yea it's Manchester Airport Rail Station.

It's connected by those big walkways that are at MAN. It's located between terminals 1 and 2.

Three minutes walking distance from check in, if that?

Anybody mind if this old geezer turned up? I might be able to get a pass out to come across.

If I do come over, it will be on BA4401 dep. IOM - 07.10, arr. MAN - 08.00. Flight is looking pretty full at the moment but my wife works on the check in so.............  wink

Thing is, will anyone be around at that unearthly hour of the day?

Cheers
