OpAmp Electrical Engr/Electrophysics Help

Mon Mar 07, 2005 12:48 pm

Could someone kindly explain the following (and I realize this may be obscenely obvious for some):

What is A_0OL, the dc open-loop gain of the amplifier...what does that mean?

What do open-loop and closed-loop refer to?

IIRC this has to do with neg. feedback to keep the amp. linear.(been a long time since I have used any theory)

I´m not a specialist for analog electronics, but as far as I understand the "open loop gain" should be the direct amplification factor without any positive (higher gain) or negative feedback (lower gain) in the "closed loop" case.

Open loop: no load, theoritical gain of a circuit (all by itself).

No, it seems this Tutorial agrees with my assumption:

By introducing negative feedback around an op-amp we can control the gain of an amplifier circuit. The resulting gain is called the closed loop gain

I'll reply with a proper answer when I can find my Physics books  Wink
