Only the first year is out - but go to Columbia House.com - there is a pre-order link for the next year when it is released.

I'll preorder Year #2 later.

What's your all-time favorite episodes? There are tons of them (not naming the titile of the episode, but any Hogan fan knows what I'm talking about)

-The War is Over

-Klink becoming Chief of Staff during Normandy.

-"Today Berlin, tomorrow the world.....FLAT as a pancake"

Those are the first three that always come to my mind.  Silly

SLC1, I've never heard of it being on a "worst ever" list. Prolly some PC hack who thinks we weren't kind to German sensibilities or something.  Smile

It's always been thought of, far as I can tell, a classic. One of the great 60's sitcoms, no doubt.

Actually I am waiting for "Black Sheep Squadron" to come out on DVD. My sister was taping them for me when they where being released on the History channel.

Actually it is amazing what is being released on DVD...Remember the TV show, "Greatest American Hero". Just saw that the 1st season of that is out on DVD now too.

John Banner was the best as Shultz. I can't peg my best episode as there were so many!

Is Werner Klemperer still alive? A classic if their ever was one. In today's PC world this show would NEVER be made. And that is sad.

All I need now is Hawaii Five-O on DVD. Now that would be great!

No, he died in 2000, although I swore it was last year.

Nope lost him in 2000, but he did manage a guest shot on the Simpsons by then, played Homer's guardian angel.

No . . . Dec 7, 2000, age 80. RIP. He was a classical musician and a classic stage actor as well.

Damm Falcon, want to race next time?  Silly

Actually what I need to have released on DVD is the old, "Emergency" TV show.

I have a brother that is a volunteer firefighter and I have been harrasing him the past few years by giving him firefighter movies, The Towering Inferno, Hellfighters, and a couple of real direct to video ones I picked up at the used rack at Blockbuster.

Another show that needs to come out is one that most people haven't heard of, "Tales of the Gold Monkey"

Annnnnnd, throw in "Dragnet". The 1967-1970 version. The one from the 50's IS available, and doesn't look too bad, either. I bought a few of them on dvd in a dollar store, of all places.

Why "Hawaii Five-0" ISN'T available is beyond belief. The show was at it's best from about 1971-1975. After Dano, and Chin left the show, it just got stale.

OH, and what about "The FBI?" (A Quinn Martin Production!)

Hogans Heroes was too funny. The stories of some of the castmembers is pretty good as well. Everyone has heard of the exploits of Bob Crane, but how many people know that Ivan Dixon was one of the pioneering black Americans in the field of television directing as well as acting? He costarred with Belafonte in Porgy and Bess, and with Poitier in A Raisin in the Sun. Richard Dawson was a successful game show host as we all know, but he was a very successful businessman as well, and Larry Hovis was a college professor in addition to being an actor until his death.

In Klemperers later years he was a regular on Bill Maher's ABC show before he went off the liberal deepend. When he was in his libertarian phase the show was a bit more balanced and had more opinions from either end of the spectrum and Werner Klemperer was well informed and funny.

I know, useless trivia, but this was one funny damned show. The performers brought the writing to life (not the other way around) and should be remembered for that.

L-188...I believe that you can get Emergency! on video. Let me find it and I'll let you know where.

I love Hogan's Heros. It used to be on TVLand about 4 years ago, but I haven't seen any since. What a great show!!!!

"You have apple strudel?"

"I know nothing!"

Once of my favorite scenes was when Hogan was telling Klink that there were tunnels under the camp. Klink says impossible, If there were Schultz would have fallen through the ground by now. Hogan says, "but they are pretty deep." Klink says, "Schultz is heavier than any tunnel!"

I really wish they would bring it back on TV

Green Acres is also pretty good. Gotta love Arnold Ziffel.

"Green Acres" is on TVLand, these days. It's also avaliable on DVD, and is hopefully cleaned up. The prints used on TV for the last 30 years were looking pretty worn.

Speaking of WWII on TV, where's "Rat Patrol"?

NoUfo,

Hogan´s Heros series has been broadcasted several times over the last few years on Sat1. Here it is known as "Ein Käfig Voller Helden".
Except for the hairstyles and clothes of the women (which are very 60tish) and the obvious pisstaking, many details are accurate.

I remember one time on Hogans heros they were showing a German gun crew talking about ranges in yards... I may be mistaken but wouldn't that have been meters?

I am sure a lot of other stuff was correct, but that one glaring oops really stuck with me, but then again I am a known nit-picker.

I heard that when Hogan's Heroes was shown in Germany in recent years, the dubbing made some of the lines in translation even more absurb and silly, to mock the Nazi 'superiority'.
You mentioned about Ivan Dixon. I believe he directed a number of M*A*S*H episodes and some other progams
Klempler was also a big fan of and very knowlegable about Opera.

Klemperer made an appearance on an episode of "Law&Order" called "Star Struck" in 1992. It's about a creepy fan who attacks a soap opera star. Klemperer played the father of a suspect.

Odd factoid, THAT particular episode was shown on A&E (the network that carried it, before TNT took it) during their early afternoon showing on the 5th of December 2000, the day before he passed away.

I liked the actor that played the Gestapo Major Hochstetter. Just the perfect sized, mealy mouthed, beady eyed little fella to fill the stereotypical Gestapo role.

Every pay attention to the Guest Stars . . . there were quite a few big names playing small and large parts.

I'd like to see a yearly compilation of "Bonanza" come out on DVD. The mix and match of an episode here and there from the first couple seasons just doesn't cut it. And while the current showings on TVLand are nice, they are edited for time quite a bit.

In the German version, Colonel Klink speaks with a ridiculous Saxon accent, while Sergeant Schultz speaks like a Bavarian. General Burghalter speaks with a Viennese accent. I never watched the original version.

There was a simple reason for that.

Most of the people invovled in the shows of that era probably had been in the service and knew what the stuff was supposed to look like.

That and WWII items where still pretty common in surplus stores.
